T or F-Anthony Bennett is biggest bust at #1 in NBA history.

Players like Oden with career altering injuries don't count.

*on a technicality I think Beasely is a bigger bust, but he went #2

I would still say it's LaRue Martin. Both were equally terrible players but Bennett went #1 in a very poor draft while Martin was the #1 pick ahead of Bob McAdoo and Dr. J.

I don't think anyone expected him to be great. Him being #1 that year was like winning the special Olympics. It was a terrible year to have the first pick. I can't fault him for that.

He's a bust but doesn't deserve the biggest bust tag.

The next guys on that list are all at least serviceable NBA players today. Huge bust.

Not a great draft, at all, but wild to see that Cleveland would have been better off drafting anyone else between No. 2 and No. 15 over Anthony Bennett.

ETA: I am including Bazz and Giannis, who were drafted No. 14 and 15.

What? Beasley was a huge waste of talent, but even his worst season was better than Bennett's best.

Beasley averaged double figures 5 years. His first 3 seasons he showed some serious potential 14/5 15/6 19/6.

Bennett's career is 4/3 while shooting 38%

that draft might be the worst ever.
I don't see an all star player in it. I looked all the way back to 1990, and every draft has had multiple all star picks in it. The worst was 2000 with Michael Redd, Kenyon Martin and Jamaal Magloire, but it was also littered with good role players like Mike Miller, Jamaal Crawford, Turkoglu, Mo Pete, and QRich to name a few.

The 2013 draft just looks horrible. I guess McCollum could be an all star eventually. Maybe Giannis or Gobert can. other than that it's just role players at best at the moment.

Kwame Brown was not very good either. I think it will always be tough to say the worst exactly. I could argue Brown was worse with regards to who else was in his class compared to other options available outside of Bennett.

For reference other 1st round picks with Brown [note Gilbert Arenas went early 2nd round that year]:
Tyson Chandler
Pau Gasol
Joe Johnson
Zack Randolph
Gerald Wallace
Tony Parker

Yeah, LaRue Martin, Kwame Brown or Michael Olowokandi were probably all bigger busts. I don't recall anyone saying that Bennett was going to be a great pro -- those three other guys, a lot of NBA rank and file was kind of high on them. Think SI did a story on how Olowokandi would be really good.

Is Bennett still in the league? EDIT: Saw he got cut today.

Guess it depends how you define "bust", but I have a hard time coming up with a worst player taken at #1 overall. Does that mean he is the biggest bust, I'm not sure, but he should be the unanimous worst #1 player ever.

That is how I feel about Bennett. I do not think of him as a bust as much as I think of him as a horrible pick.

It is not like he was hyped as the next best thing.
