You know what happened the last time somebody used that line.
Yep, it lead to this.

You have to burp the lid when cooking at higher temps.
400 isn't high

Not a stupid question. The heat/fire counsumes the O2 at a rate faster that it can be replaced (vents closed too much) There are three things needed fire to sustain fire, material, heat, and O2. Take one of those elements away the fire starts going out but the heat remains. As in most structure fires there is some 'leaking' of O2 but not enough to balance the atmosphere. Opening the lid too quickly introduces O2 at a rate that is like throwing gasoline on the fire.

When was the last time your Weber kettle grill caused an explosion so loud that it drew your neighbors out of their house?
Never have any of my outdoor cooking implements "Exploded" in any manner what so ever. For me it is not a problem, at all. But then again, I'm reasonably capable.

I had a freaking eggplant explode on me......tossed it on the BGE to roast/soften, my hubs goes out to take it off using tongs. The second he touched it, kaboom. It detonated, splattering eggplant pulp about 20 ft.

You set him up perfectly!

It has a lifetime warranty on the ceramics. If you broke the ring or firebox take pictures of it and bring it to Goodwood Hardware and they will replace it and get reimbursed by BGE.
I have a Weber Kettle too and as much as I like it and as well as it cooks it does not cook like a green egg and my choice between the two is BGE. And more than half the time I use Kingsford charcoal from Home Depot and can't tell the difference in charcoal other than it burns a bit faster.

Also, watch out for putting the "daisy wheel" on the top with the bottom wide open. Had it explode out of that bottom hole once.

I've never taken my daisy wheel off. My gasket burned off about 6 years ago and it never missed a beat. It also sat out in the weather for about the first 6 years too. It's a beast.
