No, I bought mine brand new for $1200 (I think that's what it was)
That looks pretty beat up.
ETA: Has some ammo but only 1 magazine. The magazines aren't cheap.

I wouldn't pay nearly that, might offer 650-700, gun looks beat up and dirty as shite.

Being an original production makes it a little more desirable, but it's in bad shape. Pictures aren't the best but the exterior finish looks bad and judging from the build up/crud on the trigger, I'd bet the internals haven't been well taken care of either.
If it were in much better shape, I'd say it's a good deal, but in this condition, no. Offer him less if you want it badly and if he accepts then have it cleaned up or do it yourself if you're comfortable taking apart a 1911. The exterior finish is the biggest negative to me though.

My mom and dads good friend just died.
His family has no idea what his gun collection is worth.
He has 2 colt pythons and 1 of each colt snake gun. He has a full auto Uzi, civil war sabre, 2-44 magnums, 2-357's, and several more. He was 82 years old and was the first person who taught me to shoot a pistol and his Uzi when I was a young boy.
Wish I had the money to buy them all.
