Happy birthday to the greatest sports venue since The Colosseum. The long list of events the Dome has hosted is second to none. She is the centerpiece in the skyline for the greatest city in the South.

I have great memories of playing football on the ramps as a kid during Aints games. Monster truck rallies, WinnDixie showdowns, Essence Fest, boat shows, and LSU National Championships. I even met Boss Hog there at World of Wheels. The greatest moment for me was the NFC Championship game in 2009. I still get goose bumps just thinking about it.

Happy birthday old girl you have provide countless memories for me. I'm looking forward to the 2015 Saints season.

The Superdome through the years

She is being born

An early Super Bowl there

The baseball layout

Not one of her better day

She's back

NFC Championship game

Old girl looks pretty good for 40. In fact she looks better than most of the stadiums half her age. Now if they would just replace the rest of the multicolor seats with the black ones.

Trivia question. What was the first event held in the Superdome? Second?

The Superdome held its official dedication ceremonies on August 3, 1975. Jazz musicians Al Hirt and Pete Fountain played for the event.

Between August 28 and September 14, 1975, the Superdome continued to celebrate its grand opening, with appearances by Bob Hope, Chayl Jhuren, Telly Savalas, Dorothy Lamour, Karen Valentine, and Raquel Welch. The Allman Brothers, the Marshall Tucker band, Wet Willie, the Charlie Daniels band, the O'Jays, the Isley Brothers, the Temptations, Donald Byrd and the Blackbyrds, and the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus also performed.[50]

As far as concerts The Ojays, Temptations, and the Isley Bros., were first. I believe it was the first Fri. in Sept. of 75, Labor Day Wkend. Then on Sunday, Allman Bros., Marshall Tucker, Wet Willie, Charlie Daniels. Remember the latter like it was yesterday. Good times.

Funny ... didn't know that the Superdome and my son shared a birthday! Except he's 23.
