Looking into fishing inshore, wade fishing and fishing around my parents pond (I have a cheap zebco I leave at my parents right now that works). I have scoured the search engine and decided on a Falcon coastal 7' medium with either a Shimano Sahara 3000 or Sonora 2500. Would this be a good all around rod and reel for what I am trying to do?

I have a $30 gift card to Amazon so I would prefer to use it on one of these items.

Good setup imo. I have two saharras that are 3 years old and going strong after numerous reds and trout. Proper maintenance and you're good. Good rod too

Yup. Good choice.

Go with the 3000 series. Same size reel, just holds a little more line. But it will probably never matter.

Also would I do better buying the rod at say BPS, Cabelas or Academy just to have the peace of mind of being able to return it if it breaks?

Not a terrible idea. Use the amazon money on tackle and line and accessories...

I would buy some aluminum pliers, that's about $30 and you will use them all the time.
