Last night in interview, Sciambra said that the ump watched him closely to make sure he touched 3rd base. If a homerun is hit and the batter misses a base, the run is not counted, right?

Has anyone ever seen this happen? Just curious.

Correct. The player would be out, and no run would be counted. However, the defense would need to appeal the play. The umpire will not notify the other team that the runner missed the base unless that team appeals the play.

Yes, the batter is out if he misses a base or touches them out of order. I don't remember a home run being waved off because of this, but earlier this year, our opponent tried to appeal that very thing, that the batter (I want to say it was Fraley) didn't touch 3rd base on a home run. The appeal didn't hold up since he actually did touch the base.

Can't remember for sure who that was against, but sounds like a Cohen move.

Watching the video of the replay last night you could see the ump looking down at the base/Sciambra's feet.

I noticed after the UL Laf Homerun the ump ran out and literally stared at 3rd base to make sure it was touched
