Where you able to find any Pompano? I've heard it's been pretty good if you can get away from all the people. A friend of mine sent me some pictures from the emerald cost of some big bull redfish in the surf that were hammering sandflea flies.

Nah I was just practicing casting really. I'll be back in that area in a month and may try to do some fishing

Anyone do any fly fishing around destin? I'll be there in July and wouldn't mind throwing my fly rod at some stuff

You can catch ladyfish pretty regularly in the surf with a clouser. You'll also get occasional schools of bluefish and redfish that come close enough to shore to target. If you have a kayak, you can get out a little further and chase schools or troll.

Awesome. I have a nice and stable kayak (KC) but I also have free reign to use any kayak I want so I might bring a Pro Angler down there as well to make it a little easier on myself. I hate lady fish but I wouldn't mind catching one on the fly

You can also put in on the bayside and target other stuff. If you're in Destin proper, we've had some luck going across East Pass and fishing that jetty (though now we stay further down East and don't generally pass through Destin). I imagine the bay side around there would also be good form a 'yak.

Don't neglect the tidal lakes, either. On a falling tide, their inlets can attract schools.

Thanks for all the info. We are gonna have our boat down there too so I'll probably fish the bay side by boat

I was in destin this past weekend and saw what I think was a school of tarpon rolling just past the second sandbar. Oh to only have a kayak and fly rod....
