LOL.
Prime Bird, son.
ETA: Should have known Prime would be in here. 86 C's have three first ballot HOFers in the front court. (Probably the best front court of all time.) They are elite bigs.
Curry would get his, and Klay would knock down a bunch of 3's, but after that it's a shite show. C's could run and play D, too.
Dubs win a game at home.
If you watched Bird in '86, you know he was unstoppable. He'd also be the best defender and passer on the floor.

We're talking about 1986 basketball. It's a night and day difference from back then compared to today.

The Celtics would get every rebound
Put bogut on Parrish and Mchale torches lee
Put bogut on Mchale and Parrish torches lee
Bird guarded by Barnes is laughable, bird would probably be offended and demand Iguodala guard him just to make it interesting
Ainge is 6'5 and plenty big/physical enough to guard Thompson
Curry can't beat the 86 Celtics by himself and DJ would give him a little trouble because of his strength/physical nature
And not to mention Walton coming off the bench

Oh, and Bill Walton and Rick Carlile on the bench.
There are a lot of angles you can take to demonstrate the Celtics would give them a game...this isn't one of them.

Not one mention of Jerry Sichting in this thread. I am disappoint.

I agree, but we are also talking a C's team that has elite talent. Talent that crosses any era. Many of the C's also have high high high basketball IQ.
Pretty sure Bird/McHale/Ainge could be taught how to play the schemes of today. Especially since they are teaching people how to run the schemes of today as I type this.
I know you love today's era, and so do I, but let's show the 86 C's some respect.
ETA: Prime Bird is the trump card.

Bird would probably average 50 points a game

Bird was really fast even and could really run the floor.
You sound surprised that a white guy could fly. Racist.

Even better than that: bird could average 14pts, 12 boards and 8 assists
When he wasn't shooting that well he would hit the glass and start setting up team mates for easy baskets

quote:People who argue otherwise need to watch this full game from the '84 NBA finals of Celtics vs Lakers. While you watch it, keep in mind this is the absolute pinnacle of 80s basketball, the best of the best. Watch it and then tell me any team from the 80s could compete today
