There's usually not much surf in Mexico Beach unless there's a storm toward the west. Your best bet to catch some nice fish is to head down to St Joe Bay a find some sand holes (sandy spots in grass beds). Whatever you do, report back with a report and have fun.

The forgotten coast has some great fishing. I would take your yak to St. Joe Bay and do some speck fishing

Do not put the scupper plugs in.

Already planned on doing this one or 2 days. I haven't salt water fished since I moved from LA in 04 so I should look like a retard trying to round up some specs and reds.
Wanted to do the beach thing so I could spend time with the family on the beach, and sneakily get some more fishing in.
Also have an 8 hour charter booked.

I'm guessing that means you haven't fished the bay before then? If you haven't, fish the edges of large grass spots that are surrounded by sand. The bay is crystal clear so it'll be easy to see good spots.
