Youth Bat Advice??

Currently shopping for a new bat for my 8 yr old. He had a one-piece Easton but it's time for an upgrade. I would consider him slightly advanced for his age, so I'm ready to dole out some money but $350 for the new Easton Mako is a bit overboard imo.
I've always been an Easton guy, but Demarini has some better deals. Any advice would be appreciated.....CF7, Vexxum, Overlord?

you can buy the older models for a lot cheaper for an 8 year old
still partial to Easton, they got passed up but their recent bats are a lot better
do not like demarini's

CF7 will probably run you close to that price. Overlord is a pretty good bat though. Check out Rawlings Velo or Marucci Hex Alloy.

Love the Easton bats but they dent too easy. My average size, average swining 10 year old went through 2 of them in 6 months from denting. Demarini was the bat he went with after Easton and used it for about a year. Grandfather bought him the Marucci Composite end of last summer and he shelved the Demarini. Not sure if because it was "new" or he just likes it better. Seems solid with some pop. I hear the HexAlloys are a good bat also.

What are your experiences with Demarini? Durability? Sweet spot too small?
I just wanna get the best bang for the buck, I'm not assuming a certain bat will add 40-50' of distance.....any other good Eastons that aren't Makos?

My 8 yr old dented his Easton pretty quick as well.....the Marruci looks more economic as well
I just wish I could find a demo bat store, can't seem to find one

I'd go the used bat route on eBay to get a better price. Easton Reflex has -12 and -13 models. The Overlord is a great bat but is top heavy and younger kids tend to struggle with keeping an end-weighted barrel level with their hands through the zone.

Holy crap.
Fundamentals of hitting > the bat
Fundamentals of hitting > the bat

Have him play a sport that doesn't suck.

Don't waste your money on the Mako. The Easton S3 is a solid bat. It is alloy (not composite), which I think benefits younger players. We tried the Demarini NVS and was not impressed.

I agree....who here said otherwise? Spare us with your self-righteous attitude. If you wanna get your kid a $60 bat from Wal Mart or Academy then have at it

Thanks, I'll look into that one....probably gonna check out used bats on EBay as well

The Mako is legit. Maybe not for an 8 year old, but our entire team uses them (11U).

I've used Justbats.com for about 6 years now. They have never let me down on replacing a dented bat.
I have a $200 max on buying a bat. I find that Eastons have been the best overall choice amongst the team's my kids play for and against. I find the dimensions that best suit my kids and decide on a game bat.
Then I buy a cheaper bat w the same dimensions to use in practice and drills.
Lately, the Easton XL3 and S1 have been used by my 14 and 12 yo

I've tried different variations of Easton, Demarini, Nike and Marucci and like Marucci the best. I've had bad luck with composites (tend to crack easily and actually had one snap in 2 during BP). I would look at 1 piece alloys and buy online...I've had great luck at justbats.com. Very good deals and excellent customer service.

Will be harder to come by due to point in season but try and find last years model.. Essentially the same bats for half the price.

A less known company that I see alot of kids do well with us combat bats, most have larger sweet spots and long barrels
