Let's take a trip back to 2006: Loomis and CSP are geniuses

We had the second overall pick in the draft. They could have easily decided to forgoe spending millions on a veteran QB coming off a major injury (Culpepper and Brees) and opted to draft a QB to be the face of the franchise. Thank God Loomis and CSP looked at the QB options in the draft and decided that taking a risk on Brees was safer than taking a risk on Cutler, Leinart or VY. We would have never would a Super Bow and would have been stuck in mediocrity for years, if not worse than that.
I know this is not ground breaking information or anything new but it is a refreshing thought to remind ourselves how fortunate we are as fans

Well you're assuming a good bit.

Actually he's pretty spot on. There's no parallel universe where Cutler, Leinart, or VY get us sniffing a SB.

wouldn't trade our super bow for nothing.

I remember talking to my friends at the end of the 2005 season and looking at the draft and coaching prospects.
I wanted us to draft Matt Leinart at #2 and hire Mike Martz as our coach.
Can't imagine what our team would look like now.

I was a Leinart lover back when he came out of USC...just look at him now

I wanted VY. I thought he could be Vick with durability...

VY looked like the next Vick his rookie year. He just lost his mind

Sure there are.
It's completely feasible that the most innovative play caller and offensive mind of that time can turn Jay Cutler into a HOF-type player. Probable? No. But it's definitely possible.
You're assuming that Jay Cutler turns out to be modern-day Jay Cutler regardless of circumstances.

I really wanted Mario Williams. I was sure the Texans would take Vince Young or Reggie.
When the Texans started negotiating with Williams, I thought it was just to get the contract demands of Bush or VY down. I was pissed when the story broke before the draft that Williams was their guy.

quote:I think Cutler's got physical talent, but he's an unlikable jerk that can't lead his team. And when LSU played Vandy back when he was there, that's the way he presented then too. Kind of remember his dad being an overbearing arse in the stands, too.

That being the case, then no, Sean Payton wasn't going to be able to fix that.

Right, because no athlete has ever changed his attitude in his career. Success changes nothing.
