iPhone 5 storage issues....

Currently I have an iPhone 5 with the 16GB and I continue to get "storage full" message.....
I've gone through deleted several apps, e-mails, and text messages and I continue to get storage full. Besides upgrading (which will happen when I decide what I want for my next phone) what are some things I can do besides deleting everything?

Have you deleted any pics and/or videos?

If you are like me then you have a lot of pictures and music on your phone. After having phone with 32 and 64 gigs of storage I could never go back to 16. Unfortunately you may have to part with some of those songs and pictures to get your storage issues resolved.

sync your photos and videos and delete them off your phone. If this isn't the problem, then you have too much music or movies on there.
Another big culprit of storage eating are games. Check to see if you have some large games on there.

Videos will eat up storage quick. In your Photos and in text messages.
Apps aren't usually big hogs unless you have a ton of big intensive games.

Is your storage actually full? What's used vs what's available? Those seem perfectly acceptable.
Is the error just resulting from trying to download the latest iOS update? For some reasons Apple requires ridiculous storage amounts to download and install.

I have not updated the latest software update
and I have available 439 MB right now

on your phone, go to settings>general>usage>manage storage. that will list what is using storage on your phone and let you know what you need to do to fix it.
sometimes if you haven't restarted your phone in awhile, it can help clear some caches and free up space

Then where else is the storage The phone settings should tell you. I'm confused as to what you have stored on there taking up the remaining 12 GBs or so.
Have you backed it up or synced it lately?

It's peobably "other" data that isn't shown on the phone GUIs
Plug it into a computer and check the storage via iTunes. If it's showing a bunch of "other", you'll need to do a reset of the phone and restore from your backup. It's the only way to clear the other data.

I want a 128GB for my tablet but I am waiting on them to come down in price.
I bought two 64GB cards the other day for $25 each. Samsung EVO. One for my phone and one for my tablet.

There was a problem with SMS messages in which the associated files were not getting deleted even when the message was deleted. This issue has since been fixed but to correct it on an older version of IOS, do one of the following:
Firstly you DO NOT have to do a factory reset / wipe device, it is simply not required to get the space back!
METHOD ONE:
Make a backup in iTunes
open iBackupBot (Google it)
Go to the relevant backup
Click on Multimedia File Manager and click on the other Multimedia files tab
Sort by filename by clicking the Filename tab
Find MediaDomain/Library/SMS/Attachments and highlight all of them, then press delete. You can also click to export to a folder of your choice, if you want to save them that is.
Then go to System Files>MediaDomain>Library>SMS>Attachments
They will be all listed here, highlight them all and press delete
Then just restore that backup using iTunes!
Tadaa! Space recovered, your messages are still there but without the attachments!
METHOD TWO:
Backup your device in iTunes and then to iCloud
Go to Settings>iCloud and toggle Documents & Data to OFF
Then do a 2nd backup to iTunes and iCloud
Then restore the device from iCloud and the message attachments should be gone, turn Documents & Data back on again in the settings
PLEASE NOTE: Method two is a much longer process but some users may feel more comfortable with this method.
P.S You may want to make two backups in case you get any of the above steps wrong, but it is simple to follow the above and not do anything wrong!
