Don't Expect the Same Avengers to Assemble After Avengers: Age of Ultron

"The Old Order Changeth!" Stan Lee famously set as the title for "The Avengers" #16 (a nod to Alfred Tennyson's "Morte d'Arthur"). That issue, which hit the stands in 1965, offered the first roster shift for Marvel's mighty superhero team. Now, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirms to Buzzfeed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is likely to follow suite in the wake of next summer's Avengers: Age of Ultron.
“It’s like as it was in publishing," Feige tells the outlet, "when each of the characters would go on their own adventures and then occasionally team up for a big, 12-issue mega-event. Then they would go back into their own comics, and be changed from whatever that event was. I envision the same thing occurring after this movie, because the [Avengers] roster is altered by the finale of this film.”
In the original comics, the founding members of The Avengers included Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man, Wasp and Hulk. Hulk quit during the second issue and Captain America joined in issue four, but the significant shakeup that happened in issue 16 saw Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man (Giant-Man by then) and Wasp leave the team, making room for Hawkeye, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to continue alongside Captain America.
"It has to be this way" Iron man says in that very issue. "The ranks of the Avengers will always need replenishing! The old must ever give way to the new!"
Of course, that original storyline sees relatively amicable departures for everyone involved. After last week's epic trailer, it's probably a safe bet that that's not going to be the case on the big screen!

It's the only way to avoid the multi-movie contract problems and keeping the universe running realistically. I applaud the efforts so far and it would be awesome if the team is completely new. Allow new personalities to thrive and grow.

Well, Avengers 2 kicks off the Civil War arc, so that's an obvious reason for a new team of Avengers.

I think at least one of Captain America, Iron Man, or Thor should be in any version of the Avengers.

Oh of course. But the majority would be gone. Or even everyone but the one holdover.
The holdover is either going to be Thor (but unlikely) or Widow. Cap will have his own team and RDJ is done with Iron Man after Cap 3 unless Marvel pays an ungodly amount of money.

I wouldn't expect them to have that story line wrapped up by 3, so they'll probably be paying RDJ

you sure his contract is up by then? you cant have civil war without Iron Man.

Ideally, but he's going want something north of $50 million I believe. I'm not sure Marvel would pay that.

i thought his contract is mostly % points on the movies gross. thats how he was the highest paid actor last year without having made a movie, from all the Avengers profits.

This. It opens the door to new franchises becoming fan favorites (like GotG) and I'm sure we'll see meetups as it goes along. If Avengers 4 is Civil War, I'd imagine most everyone they've had a film or intro for would be involved in some capacity.

There will definitely be more than one team, for sure. Steve and Tony likely lead separate factions...the members of the team? Who knows...I believe Thor will be off the board in Civil War, so I'd think you'd take Hulk off the board too, unless RULK comes around. which is redundant.

There have been Thunderbolt rumors on many separate occasions FWIW.
Also, there is a big Marvel event tomorrow, no one knows what it is. Let's hope it's not another cop out.
1 hour, I believe at 1pm CT.

I thought RDJ had already signed on for Cap 3?
And to the OP, I can't imagine this being a bad thing. Only way to keep it fresh.

I never said it was a bad thing.

I actually was wondering the other day how Marvel planned on keeping this going. You can't have the same heroes over and over cinematically. It's encouraging to see them do such an awesome job with GoG. Really looking forward to Ant Man, and now especially doc strange.
