There's more to it than that. Many republicans felt that Roberts needed to go, but he managed to win the primary against Wolf. Taylor (Democrat) was probably offered a deal by the Democrat party to drop out of the race so that Orman (an independent who is really a liberal) would have a shot at the race.

I'd agree that the tax cuts may not have been particularly well thought out. Cuts in sales tax are not as directly stimulating to the economy as a cut in income taxes, IMO, and I think there's probably some data to back that up. I'd guess that you could increase sales taxes, reduce income taxes and come out with more state revenue within certain boundaries of change.
You can't do a direct comparison between income tax cuts and sales tax cuts. A 1% decrease in income tax is greater than a 1% decrease in sales tax because not all of your spending generates a sales tax expense.
According to the IRS sales tax deduction calculator, a family of 4 making between 100k and 120k spend about 19,050 that is subject to sales tax. This means that you would need to decrease sales tax 5% for ever 1% of income tax decrease. (I know I over simplified this example and ignored income tax deductions, but you get the idea.)

For a first baseman, it is because a lefty can stretch further and keep his foot on the bag.
Lefties stretch farther?

Both the Reagan AND Bush tax cuts resulted in revenue increases.

So? Who has? Are state workers special? State workers generally love the governors who hand out raises paid for by other citizens.
U.S. employers are planning to give pay raises averaging 3% next year, about par with the 2.9% average raise in 2014 and 2013, according to a survey of nearly 1,100 U.S. companies out Monday by compensation consultant Towers Watson.

I'm aware of all that. I wasn't proposing a direct percentage change between the two.

quote:We are dealing with the same nonsense with Chris Christie in NJ. The Republicans used to have the reputation of being the frugal party, but they really stink on balancing budgets nowadays.
The reason why Senator Roberts is in trouble and why Brownback is not going to win reelection is because the current revenue crisis in the state is being attributed to Brownback's tax cut legislation.
It was poorly-timed, and is giving democrats and statists plenty of ammo.

I just read an article about this and it's hard for me to see the reason why people would vote away these tax cuts.
Seems like the only reason is to give the state government more revenue? Who cares about the state gov getting more revenue?

For pitchers, it is because of the way a lefty's pithces break against a right-handed batter.
