Transcend MicroSD cards are on sale today only at Amazon. You can grab a Transcend 32GB MicroSDHC Class 10 (with adapter) for $13.99 (that's 63% off) or a Transcend 64GB MicroSDXC card (also with adapter) for $28.99 (42% off). If you've been wanting to increase the storage space of your smartphone, today might be a good day to make that purchase. Added bonus: they both come in "frustration-free" packaging, trading the irritating blister plastic packaging for a simple paperboard sleeve.

Have not heard of Transcend before. Is this a reputable brand? I have always just bought sandisk.

The reviews overall are positive, however there seem to be some about cards not working out of the box.

How does it compare to this SanDisk card?

I see the difference in speed from 30 mbs for the sandisk vs up to 45 for the transcend. Is this an accurate expectation? I may be using the card in a gopro and have read the higher speed the better for hd video.

I have a couple. No problems. Reviews on Newegg seem decent as well.

You'd be surprised how incestuous the market really is. Some of the top brands source their components from the same places. There are only a handful of independent manufacturers of flash memory controllers for SD Cards, pretty much all of them in Taiwan. There might be a German one. The controller chips are responsible for data management and interfacing with the device and are the most likely point of failure.

Did you know that SanDisk and Toshiba co-own the manufacturing facility that makes the NAND dies, and that while they sell their own SD cards, they also supply NAND dies to brands like Kingston and PNY?

But it doesn't necessarily mean that the companies that make their own NAND dies are inherently better. For example, since Toshiba/Sandisk manufactures for Kingston, and Kingston may accept only A+ binned units, it's possible that Sandisk takes the 'rejected' A- batches and sells them under the Sandisk name, so the middle-man Kingston could very well have a better quality chip.

As for Transcend, there is less information about who they supply to these days, but they are in the top 3-5 DRAM device vendors, and their history of distribution relationships with Kingston, Toshiba, Samsung, and Panasonic provides a strong enough hint as to what's inside the Transcend casing.

I enjoy educating, for sure, otherwise I wouldn't bother. Trust me, I'll stop the minute I burn out. And with the repetitive content and all the defend-your-platform-purchase-to-the-death-with-shitty-misinformation dick-measuring on the Tech Board, I can see that happening soon. As it stands now, I've maybe written a handful of long explanations from scratch, and many of my replies lately have been copy-pasta from my older posts.

Don't do that. I'm sure I will have plenty of tech questions that are over my head that I come hunting you for.

Many appreciate it.

Real tech people know there is really no brand loyalty.

Brand convenience, yes. But not brand loyalty.
