I have both the Remington 870 which I put a short barrel on and the Mossberg 590A1.
The Mossberg has a better trigger and smoother action.

I don't think you can wrong with either, but for what it's worth Mossberg is the only shotgun to pass the Mil-Spec 3443E test.

Well I was the guy that was looking for a tactical shotgun. Was leaning towards the 500. Ended up with an 870 mainly because the 500 selection was terrible at cabelas on Saturday.
