Hey OB, I don't post here much so thanks for taking a minute.
But I've recently began hiking and kayaking a lot more where I'm located, which is in Nashville, so i've been to a number of places around here including east TN.
I'm planning a camping trip for about 6 others, all of which are the outdoors type. We'd prefer to be on/near the river while camping, and I don't know many places outside of TN and LA. Any especially good places you've been to and would recommend?
TIA

Are you in southeast Louisiana or southeast US?

I live near Nashville also. Just did a few nights hiking in Savage Gulf which in my opinion is the best hiking within 5 hour radius of Nashville and I hike/camp quite often. I have not found a multi night kayaking trip up here, but have done single overnighters on the Harpeth and Buffalo.

SE US
I live in Nashville. I'd be willing to drive if it's worth it.

Dude, you can't beat E TN and west NC. You can put N GA in there as well. Helena, GA is where me and my buddies go. It's a good mix of mountain town, with fishing.

The best place I've ever camped is on Santeetlah Lake just on TN/NC border. Its about 15 miles south of the Smokies and accessible from Knoxville, Chattanooga, or Atlanta. It doesnt have the big boat traffic of Fontana Lake. I don't think there are any houses on the lake, so its very primitive. It's got both, stream/trout fishing and traditional lake fishing. The lake is so clear sometimes, you can see down 8-10 feet. The only water I've seen clearer was in the Bahamas. Hiking trails are everywhere and the higher elevations have old growth forests that rival the PNW.
If you are a car/motorcycle guy, or just want mountain driving, the Tail of the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway are roads you will use to get there.
