Does anyone have any recommendations for a fishing trip outfitter/charter out of Gulf Shores? Either for a half day or a full day trip, just looking to get some options and recs from people that have gone out with a charter company and were satisfied. Or I'd even appreciate hearing about ones to avoid.

TIA

ETA: The Gulf Shores area, it doesn't have to be exactly/only Gulf Shores.

I've done a walk on with reel surprise charters. Couple of times nice clean boats and good deck hands

Zekes is the main one in Gulf Shores. The longer the trip the better because you can go farther out. They will troll in and out of harbor and that eats up a lot of time, so tell the captain you don't want to do that unless you want some kings and spanish mackeral and don't really care if the drag their feet on your dime.

If you are in the area, the Ft. Morgan charter boats are better. They are close to the rigs South of Mobile Bay out in the gulf. Better service because it's not a volume thing like Zekes.

Drive down to Perdido. There's a charter (can't remember the name) that's a good deal less per person than the big name places like Zeke's.

Browns Inshore Guide Service.

Captain David Brown does half day charters and provides all equipment. Will fish in shore, in the intercoastal and outside the bridge area or further out as needed.

Cost 350 for 1/2 day but I took my grandson and we caught fish including his first one. Good dude.

Fishes out of Orange Beach Marina.

I don't remember names, but we've always caught enough snapper to feed 20+ people plus plenty to take home. One time made mistake of wrestling a big shark 6+ feet for an hour, he was still several hundred feet down - could barely see him but he would not give up. Ended up cutting line.

Do the full day trip, 1/2 day you will spend most of your time just riding and only about an hour of fishing.

Looks like Reel Surprise Charters has a lot of options and boats. We're looking at doing an 8-12 hr trip.

Thanks for the tips.

Look and see if sea harvester is in operation.

Mike from TK and Mike recommends it.

We always stay a couple of miles from Ft. Morgan, but they never had a boat big enough for 8 or more people......maybe things have changed.

I live in OB and know Capt Dave very well, we play tennis together when he isn't fishing. He his a very good fisherman/Capt. and a fun person. He has been a guide here for a long time. He would be my first/only choice for inshore

Inshore:

Dave Brown.. info linked in previous post.

Offshore, there are many options and it depends on how much you want to pay, how many are going and etc. 1/2 day is going to be tough for offshore as most offshore Capt's want a 10hr trip min but there are some who will do a 6hr.

Brian Annan - Gulf Rebel- one of the original fisherman of the area and probably can swing a 6hr on one of his boats. He was my neighbor for many years. His Son Kendal (my oldest son's age) is now running one of his boats.

Ricky McDuffie- Sea Hunter- top notch Capt and boat. but will be expensive

Dale Woodruff- Class Act- good friend and a good capt. pretty sure he offers a 6hr.

You can call Zeke's for more options.

Good Luck

Took a 6hr with Class Act 3 years ago. EXTREMELY nice 52' Viking, they just got done rehauling it when we went. (New paint, stupid flatscreen inside with Playstation, etc).

Got on some good fish and Ms Pop caught an AJ.
