Funny Range story from today...

The range operator asked us to move down because Mrs. Midnight's fire breathing dragon (snubby 627, with full power .357) was too loud.

Sorry, Doc - fat fingers hit the button prematurely.

Sounds like the rang operator was a pussy.

won't lie, was expecting it to be a bit more funny. Or just funny period.
But it sounds like the operator needs better hearing protection. Amazon has some really good ones. You should direct him to the site.

Well, I was getting called to supper and accidentally hit the submit button - Doc was right on top of the blank topic, so I had to say something quickly.
To expand, we brought 5 pistols and a revolver to our local indoor range today. It was as crowded as I've seen it, so business must be good.
Anyway, we started with "the dragon" and we were only 2 lanes over from the wall behind the gun counter, as the lanes run parallel to that. I don't think ole boy can hear very well, anyway - he has those super, duper "fills the entire ear opening" custom hearing protection when he's pushing brass. But, he comes around and asks, "What caliber are you firing there?" I respond that it's .357 magnum. He said, "Okay. I thought it might be .44 magnum or something." He comes back after a few more rounds and say, "I'm sorry, I'm going to have to ask y'all to move down to the other end - it's just too loud."
That's at least semi-funny - I mean full power .357 shouldn't be too loud for an indoor firing range, but in our days of namby pamby 9mm, I guess people aren't used to it.
My favoriteist gun is still spot on. The plastic Sig is shooting low (and shoots low for Mrs. Midnight either.) - the 229 shoots about the same as my favoriteist - and that was the whole point of today's exercise.

The custom ones I (used to )use (usually molded at the larger sporting clays tournaments) are far less effective at blocking noises than are the foam plugs that carry NRR of 32-33.
At indoor ranges I wear ear plugs and ear muffs. Outdoors, shooting shotguns, I wear just the plugs.

Yeah, I use my triple flange, Army-issue plugs and muffs indoors. I used to rely on muffs alone, indoors, and plugs outdoors.

I'm bringing my 357sig to an indoor for the first time this week and I'm expecting it to sound a bit hotter than it normally does.

You and downshift should go fondle each other while talking about that stupid arse caliber.

It's a fun round to shoot in a compact plastic gun. It goes flash/bang, what's not to like?
Gonna get to shoot a P30L 9, not sure if LEM, as well.

They're all fun to shoot, not all are practical or had applications where they succeed over another caliber. .357sig and .40 are both equally shitty in that regard. I can tell you're new to the pistol game. I'm glad you like getting out there though. Have fun!

It's a flatter, faster round that's necked to increase feed efficiency in semi autos. I bought it because HK discontinued it and I thought it was a cool gun. I don't think practicality was tops on my list of reasons for wanting a $1k piece if German plastic.
