Lone Wolf Climbers

Lots of reviews out on the interwebs, but I value the opinions of the OB brethren the most. Looking for a packable, compact climber and am considering a Lone Wolf Hand Climber. Anyone use 'em??

I have never used a Lone Wolf, but I am not a fan of the hand climber style. I have always used API stands that are the sit-stand style climber. My next will probably be a Summit.

no bar in front, not going to use it. too scary.

I now hunt almost exclusively out of lock-ons, so no bar isn't a problem

I've almost completely abandoned climbing stands. It's either ladders or lock-ons for me.

I remember my dad had one quite a few years back that he loved. I think it got stolen eventually. He and I both bowhunt only, so no bar on front is good.

I got a great deal on one and was excited since I walk at least 1 mile, and sometimes over 2. I have since sold it. Yes, it was easier to pack than my API. The negatives made it not worth it.
It is not easy to climb with. Not as easy as API anyway. The two parts must be tied together. Tension keeps the whole thing on the tree. I was pretty much scared to death the whole time I was in the tree.
Every year, I look for a replacement for my over 15 year old API, and there still is just nothing better.

I like Lone Wolf stands but their climber is ridiculously overpriced.
I'll take a Summit Open Shot any day of the week.
But I bowhunt exclusively, so no bar is normal for me.
Not to mention Im about 240lbs and stand 90-95% of the time on stand, pardon my pun. So that larger platform helps ease my mind a bit when up there 25 ft above Mother Earth.
And Summit is MUCH easier on the wallet.

as you climb - you are tethered to the tree?

Nope.
As soon as I stop climbing I put safety belt/harness on.
Just try not to climb ironwood trees. Too much slippage as you climb.
Mostly ash, sweet gum and oaks for my climbing. Maybe an occassional pine.
Just don't get in a hurry and check your stand before every seson with a fine tooth comb. Most stands that break are from weld stress cracks that propagate and snap over time. I usually sand blast my climber every couple of years and repaint after inspecting.
Of course I do NDT for a living, so it's kinda second nature to me.
