My parents have been going about every six months since that direct NOLA flight started. They talk about Latitudes and cafe Marquesa. I'm hoping mriluv and I will get to go for our 5 yr anniversary in December.

Sandy's Cafe has the best Cuban I have ever had in my life. Solid place.
I agree with the moped advice..it was super easy to navigate the island and find parking.
If you're on Duval, Jack Flats is a cool place to catch a game.
About a 1/2 block off Duval is a place called the Smoking Tuna ( LINK) which is a real cool live music venue.

I have detailed reviews and photos of everywhere I went. I'll dig it up.
I highly recommend one of the Waldorf Astorias there (you get access to both when you stay at one) and they're not as expensive as normal Waldorfs.
For snorkeling, I used Sunny Days Catamarans. $35 for like 3 hours and they were so good with us.
I second the Better Than Sex rec for drinks/dessert.

The best beach is at Fort Zach.
I like smaller hotels and inns....not a big fan of large resorts. The Mermaid and Alligator is a personal favorite. The Gardens Hotel is nice as well. Also, check out the Marquesa.

Cafe Marquesa at the same-name hotel is fantastic, easily the best dining on KW. Strangely enough, the cemetery is fascinating--interesting inscriptions, headstones/tombs, remains from the explosion of the Maine, etc. Makes for a nice bike ride from the center of town.

Girlfriend and I went this past August. First time and we loved it. We stayed at Orchid key inn, an awesome small boutique hotel right on duval. Great rooms, pool, and onsite bar. The whole island is walkable but a bike/moped is nice to get around. They have some great food on the island. Paseo's, blue heaven, Caroline's, garbo's grill (fish tacos), Sarabeths, the five brothers (Cuban), nineonefive duval, seven fish, grunts, Louie's back porch, harpoon harrys and glazed donut.. Also one night you have to get reservations at latitudes. One of Best atmospheres for restaurant I've ever experienced. Short boat ride away. Very romantic on beach and great food. Better than sex place looked great but we didnt have a reservation so if you plan on going make one.

Key west is not known for beaches. There are basically none. A small public beach or two.
Now I really suggest the waldorf's Reach Resort. Supposedly their beach is the only non-man made one on the island. And you have full access to it when you stay there. Towel service and drinks and all.

Last time I went to Key West there was a large fecal/bacteria contamination ongoing in the water which ruined an offshore swim participants had trained months for, that place doesn't do much for me.

Seriously, why do people not take the train? So many wonderful places are easily accessible via train. Forget driving in Europe...unless you're fixated on reaching some podunk hamlet in the hills, trains are the way to go.

After 5-days in and around Paris it was a lot quicker flying than the train and you still need a vehicle to get out into the countryside. It was called researching time and cost, flying won easily. We have tension when she drives regardless, like trying to get out of downtown ATL after a concert Friday night. Some people just aren't good at recognizing obvious driving issues and go off when alternative routes are suggested no matter how much sense they make.

We did Paris for a couple of days then took the train to Dijon, where we rented the car. We drove out of Dijon and stayed in a B&B for a few days, checking out the sites around there and visiting Dijon for a few nice dinners. We headed south to Provence where we drove the shite out of the car. Visited all sorts of towns in that region and loved every minute of it. Stayed in two different B&Bs over that stretch.
We then headed south towards Cannes for a few days, again driving all the frick over - even took a boat to an island out there. Eze and Monte Carlo...Then we drove the car back to Dijon and trained it back to Paris where we stayed for the rest of the trip. We ended up staying in three districts of Paris and logged no telling how many miles on the Metro.
Driving was awesome, but I got a shite load of tickets in the mail when we got back - didn't pay em though.

There in lies your problem. The wife didn't touch the wheel, ever. No nav was a bitch though. The traffic circles didn't list the next town either, it was the next big one or somewhere in between - so driving with a map was tough too. I didn't care though, we didn't have anywhere to be.

Key West is great. I have been at least a half dozen times. You have to eat at 7 Fish. They have fantastic seafood. El Siboney is the best Cuban food on the island. Kelly's is good if the weather is nice and you can eat outside. Have to hit up Mallory Square for a Sunset and do one at the La Concha hotel roof top. Then drink the rest of the time. Willy T's, Irish Kevin's, Sloppy Joes , Capt Tonys , Green Parrot, and if you are a little adventurous, hit up the Garden of Eden. You might want to look that one up online first

Actually the end of July and the beginning of August isn't that bad. That's when we go. It's hot, but that's what bars with ac are for

I was told it was awful, but it wasn't at all. It was hot, but we stayed on the opposite side of the island from Mallory Square so it only bothered us when we walked a long way.
There was a nice 30 minute shower every day.. sunny otherwise.

That is exactly my recollection of going in July. We stay in Old Town, so a walk to the other side can be warm, but a $5 taxi ride saves a lot of sweat.
