Trying to get some stability in the program, in the hopes they could turn it around.

After Charlie Mac LSU went thru a string of coaches that were here a short period.

Bo Rein - hired, never coached
Jerry Stovall - 4 years
Bill Arnsparger - 3 years
Mike Archer - 4 years

All following a coach that had coached at LSU 18 years.

90's CFB > present day CFB

Miami was dancing in the end zone

Frazier was leading the option attack at Nebraska

Spurriers prime with the fun n gun at Florida

Yeah, I miss the 90's.

What you meant was...

You miss Carl Reese and Morris Watts
You miss Herb Tyler and Kevin Faulk/The Diesel running behind Todd McClure and Alan Faneca

Me too

The only thing that made the 90's worth a crap in football are two things.

1) Every game was exciting, there were no gimmes.

2) Any win was cause to read every news article you could find and watch sports center for days

Nothing was taken for granted.

I think I know what you mean. Some of those wins seemed bigger but that's because after Hallman the program was so down we were desperate for some quality wins. So in a way, yes but overall I'd say no. Absolutely nothing worse than listening to a Curley Hallman post game interview. The sound of his voice could make me toss cookies

so dean was a self-loathing loser who didn't think he/we deserved better or was stubborn/old-school and wanted to give his guy 5 years?

things i remember from this era (my dad had season tickets till about '95, only dropped them b/c he moved to atl):

1st lsu memories: "TODD KINCHEN"

TS empty in the 2nd half of florida '93 (this happened early and often)

kids calling us "lsu poo"

sliding down the indian mounds and throwing footballs on the parade grounds

never being able to find lsu merch at wal mart or the mall

the loss at home to bama and shaun the great 26-0 in '96 when we thought we were back

watching the '97 florida game and being so proud at the speed in which the goal posts fell, then losing to ole miss the next week.

but interestingly enough i started to love lsu football in '98 when it seemed the coaches were trying to lose the games and the players wouldn't let them.. so many heartbreaking losses, but i was still behind them every week, waiting patiently for rohan to get a chance and watching us explode vs. an arkansas team that had stolen back to back national championships from tennessee earlier in the year..

tl;dr

every triumph in the '90s was followed by a letdown but i still became a fan then b/c it's not just the winning that makes lsu great

Classic case of nostalgia. The 90's were garbage for LSU football.

This. I miss the 90s too but not in regards to LSU (or Saints) football.

It's hard to believe Saban turned this into an NC in a relatively short time. In the interest of fanning the flames... could LM have done this?? I think not.

1999 3-8 1-7

This 1999 team with 1 conference win was top-to-bottom still one of the 4-5 most talented teams in the conference that year, hands down. Yet they were demoralized and did not know how to win. 2 years later, they reeled off an SEC title.
