re: LSU Football in the '90s...

UT is the game I remember most from 2000. Friend asked what the scream was, my brother said "LSU won", and he wasn't watching it. Just knew me.

I was born in 1991, so my memories of LSU football in the 90's doesn't really begin until about 95'. And even then, the first two complete seasons that I remember fully were 98' and 99'. I remember going to all of the home games and getting demolished in most of them, even though at that time I honestly felt like LSU was the best team in the world because I had been raised as such a huge fan(my grandfather is Jack Andonie, so I remember meeting lots of LSU athletes during my childhood, as well as going to all the home games and constantly being around LSU memorabilia).

When 2000 came around, I was obsessed with LSU football and when we started winning I felt like my best dreams had come true. I remember going to the Sugar Bowl in 2001 and knowing that we would demolish Illinois. It was such a great feeling knowing that my football team was a great one, and when I got to go see us win it all two years later it was like all of my childhood dreams had all come true and more. I knew that it was a new era and we would never go back to the cluster frick that was the 90's (although I do acknowledge that Jerry did bring back the magic for a couple of seasons).

tl;dr: frick the 90's.

I started at a late age(13-14) following LSU, in 95(first game I watched was the 94 Arky game). Didn't live in a house of college fans, but always knew LSU was the only team to root for, eventhough I left LA in 86. In the early 90's there was only one other LSU fan in my grade in TN. But I did remember us being good.

Tl/dr

Hard for people nowdays who weren't there to understand. Going to the Independence bowl was a big deal and people were excited. Look how many people weren't excited about going to the Peach Bowl last year.

You can never win enough.

TD would have a meltdown if it had been around then. The number of people who just left a game at halftime was huge. You literally went to the game to tailgate and "support your team" but if they had banned tailgating one week 1/2 the people would have stayed home.

First off, we were terrible. Even our best years in the 90s resulted in mediocre bowl games and single digit wins. That was the majority either. We fired two coaches in the same decade.

The only exciting parts were when we stayed in a game or had the rare upset like Florida in 97 or got to see Faulk/Collins run. Other than that it was a football abortion.

Expectations were more reasonable then which made it more fun. We were like Ole Miss fans basically.

I remember being excited to beat Mississippi State at home. As if it was a great accomplishment. No thanks ill take today's teams.
