Staying in the Gaslamp district. Mainly looking for some beers I should buy to bring back with me to New Orleans. I know I have to check out the Karl Strauss brewery which is down the block.

Really?

Green Flash, Alesmith, Port/Lost Abbey seem more appealing to me.

Mission was worth the stop as well. There's Monkey Paw which is a brewery and has a nice list of beers to try in the bar.

Stone has opened a new location at Liberty Station.

Alpine and ironfire would be at the top of my list. Smaller places making amazing beer with less hype and hoopla.

Ballast Point. Drink lots of Sculpin. Thank me later.

Also check out their Victory at Sea & Tongue Buckler. Most anything Green Flash touches is great too.

Might have to look into those.

Alesmith was very small. I don't know if you remember the pictures but it was basically a shopping center type building.

Pizza Port is one of my all-time favorite beer spots. Take a 2-3 mile cab ride from Gaslamp to the PP in Ocean Beach.

Alpines a little ways east of the city, but their ipa, nelson, had been getting rave reviews. I had a bunch of stuff by ironfire on saturday, their ipa, 51/50, was awesome. Ironfires brewers used to brew at ballast point and then opened up thier own brewery.

Stone is the best place just because of the beer garden and great tour
Nearby is Lost Abbey/Port and Iron Fist

Ballast Point, Green Flash, AleSmith and Hess are close to each other and all very good, though much different from Stone

Coronado is out on coronado island and is really nice

Societe was a cool place that just opened last time I was there

I enjoy Mission and Monkey Paw too

Also, hit Toronado or Hamiltons if you want a beer bar

Yep, both of these places are great beer bars. Again, Check out Stone - Liberty Station location. It's supposed to be right outside of the airport so you might want to stop there before going anywhere else.

I always enjoyed grabbing a beer at the bitter end. I'm sure there are better beer joints but I like its atmosphere. Croce's was close by and had good food. I'm assuming it is still open but it has been about 5 years since I was there
