my better half has had good results with Indeed.com and Idealist.org. Monster.com is the past and Craigslist is, well, Craigslist

You need a boost in confidence. You are not going to find a job anywhere if you believe you will be fired before you even accept an offer. Sometimes it is best to make a life changing decision and go on your own for a year or so. You really need to do some activity to relax a little bit and keep your mind focused. There is opportunities available for you, it will be a matter of time.

What was your dream job when you got your Masters in Counselor Education? School counselor? Working for a non-profit?
I'd call every nonprofit organization in NOLA that work with disadvantaged youths to look for an opening.
If you don't care to use your degree, move to North Dakota and work at the boomtown, or work offshore here.

False. Recent hires (which I'm assuming you're talking about here) are usually cheaper and doing more work.

A quick scan shows that the RSD and the Charter Schools in NOLA are hiring a bunch of administrative positions.

Jabarkus, taking into account your non-specialized degrees, I think you need to focus your energy on landing a government job. Many government jobs do not care about your area of study, and they will provide you with work experience and benefits to allow you to eventually move up the ladder.
Being in St. Tammany, you're actually in a decent situation because you can peruse both the Mississippi and Louisiana Civil Services.
Investigate the [link=(MS State Personnel Board)]https://www.mspb.ms.gov/[/link] and the [link=(Louisiana Civil Service)]https://www.civilservice.louisiana.gov/[/link] websites.
Just a warning, though. If you're not already familiar with the way state government works, it can be a VERY long process from applying, to getting called for an interview, to being offered a job. So it's best that you have some other irons in the fire while you do this.
