11-5-11 LSU 9 Bama 6 GAME #1
Total Yds LSU 239 Bama 295
Passing Yds LSU 91 Bama 199
Rushing Yds LSU 148 Bama 96

1-9-12 LSU 0 Bama 21 GAME #2
Total Yds LSU 92 Bama 384
Passing Yds LSU 53 Bama 234
Rushing Yds LSU 39 Bama 150

11-3-12 LSU 17 Bama 21 GAME #3
Total Yds LSU 435 Bama 331
Passing Yds LSU 296 Bama 165
Rushing Yds LSU 139 Bama 166

Game #1 Les outcoached Nick. Our QB play was poor but bama could not run on our D. Poor FG kicking by bama did them in. AJ had a ok game with 1 interception.

Game #2 Nick outcoached Les. No passing game resulted in no running game. Defense got tired. AJ had a good game.

Game #3 Les had good game plan but tried too many trick plays. Passing game was good-Mett was on target and WR's held on to ball. Running game was ok. AJ had fair game--Bama had 2 fumbles.

AJ was QB for all 3 games--imo average QB talent but exceptional knowledge of offense, pocket awareness and had good to great protection.

Most glaring change in all 3 games was our passing numbers in game #3. Obvious RED ZONE problems. We had Ware and Shep both HS QB's for wildcat. Most short yardage situations we went with 2 TE's. I personally like to keep spread formation with 3 WR's and 1 back set for anything more than 1yd. Fire Away!!

Solid. Interesting comparing numbers. Game #3 looks like the game we should have won. #2 is objectively as it was subjectively bad, especially considering that a proven offense was kept on the bench to watch an entire 4 quarters of this shite and was never given an opportunity to turn things around.

Thanks. After looking at the numbers only the NCG was a total f/u. My point really is our inability lately to get 1st downs with 3rd and short. We almost go 2 TE's 100% of the time.

I believe if we spread out the field it would be easier to pick up the 1-3yds needed. Bama and Clemson game had multiple failed 3rd and short situations.

We had 1 very good offensive game, but lost. Bama had one pretty bad game and lost.

Bama had 1 exceptional game on the same night that we had our worst game and they won handily....although even there it was very close on the scoreboard into the 3rd quarter. I call 12-0 still close but fully admit things were very much in Bama's control that night.

Make the same comparison for just the regular season games during the NS tenure at Bama. Admitting that 1/9 was our worst and their best.... That happens and it did. Other than that the record, coaching, and scores are VERY even i suspect.... So the "gap" is not wide....but that seemingly slim difference has been enough to set them atop the college football world in the past 4 years.

Good stuff solid facts. Thx

With Clement gone, Edwards and Dickson, and Desean coming in we might be able to actually use those two tight end sets more effectively now. along with the more experienced and healthy line it could make a world of a difference for those tight ends to chip then hit the second level quickly.

Looks like two pretty dead even programs and teams pounding away on each other each year.

And this is what the so-called "sunshine pumpers" (like me) have been trying to tell the idiots here.

Very even programs:

Except one program gets to dictate to the other a schedule, outside of that game, that is two to three times more difficult...

Except one program gets two chances to beat the other in a season, whereas the other program HAS to beat the other one twice in order to achieve the same goal.

Two very good, solid program with two very different standards to attain "excellence".

I couldn't agree more. On the 4th and 1 we brought Ware in and ran a QB sneak. All 11 guys were lined up tight. I think we would have been better off having Mett run a sneak from a 2-3 wr set.

Coulda. Woulda. Shoulda!

Has anybody heard from Miles or Chavis just exactly what happened on Bama's last series? Why was that prevent defense called when we had pretty much been stopping them the entire game? Did Chavis call it and if so, did Les have thoughts of overriding the call and just sticking with the regular defense? We would have won the game without that fricking prevent.

Happened at the end of the first half also. Defending 2 minute offense is not the same as defending a regular offense. If the QB is accurate it is hard to defend.

and Two holding calls, one on Mingo the other on an interior lineman whose number I couldn't make out allowed the last drive to be successful. We blitzed on the Yelding screen pass trying to sack AJ. They had the perfect play called, all meaningless had we gotten a first down or IMO made tHe FG...we wouldn't have blitzed in that situation with a 6 point lead

What's crazy about that game is as bad as it was for most of the game, we had a great chance to make it a 1 score game late in the third. Just after we crossed mid field for the only time, Landry was wide open on a third down throw that would have been a TD had JJ been able to get it there. Hard to imagine it could have been a 15-7 game and more than a quarter to go.

The truth is that talent wise LSU is right there with Alabama.

Alabama's edge comes from consistency, both in terms of play and coaching.

LSU is way more likely play up for a great team and down for a poor team. The coaching is also more sporadic, with ultra conservative game plan one week and ultra aggressive borderline reckless the next.

For a team to play with and beat Alabama they have to play their best possible game, and LSU normally does that against Alabama. If you look at the past 5 years Alabama has lost 7 games and every one was to a highly ranked, usually undefeated team and 6 of them were super close games.

Long story short, Alabama and LSU have similiar ceilings but Alabama stays up at their ceiling pretty much every week, LSU is way more likely to come out and lay an egg for unknown reasons.

Is the reason really unknown? What has been the consistent cause of losses or near losses? Hint: Is it coaching related?

wouldn't alabama fans call every loss they have had in the last few yrs laying an egg?

like letting cam come back on them.

coming out flat vs tamu or south carolina

not making plays vs LSU in t town in 11. or LSU making plays on them in 2010.

Yea, I gotta agree with you. It might not have been the fact that we always were in a tight 2 TE formation. It probably had a lot to do with those 2 TE's not giving us much of a passing option.

That let the D tee off on the run.

I agree with you more options from the spread.

Kinda wish we would have kept Shep at QB just for wildcat utilization. I think if he had stayed their by year 2 or 3 he would have performed it well.

The coaches thought Ware was better. You know why? Because he was friggin better! Jimminy, what makes you think watching ESPN qualifies you above the coaches?

Golly don't know if I can keep up with a guy that uses Jimminy when talking football but I will try.

Ware may have been better but it sure did not show on the field. We did not utilize the wildcat much anyway but I think we should have.

The coaches have struggled to put out a good product on offense so I am not sold on their ability on that side of the ball.

As stated earlier in the post we had much more time to work with Shep due to needing Ware at RB.
I really do not care which one we utilized just that we used the wildcat more and actually passed out of it at times--(using either/or stated earlier in post).
