I would laugh as well, but the desperate hope inside won't allow me.

I know the HL3 is a longshot etc..But, When Hl2 launched, a new program was required to play it..Some little app called steam.

edta: I am reading that the rumor of the linux based OS is looking more and more true. It seems to me that Valve is possibly a little pissed at Windows for closing down parts of their OS and is trying to get out ahead of this direction with a play to drive gaming completly off of the windows OS.

I can't imagine anyone paying >$1000 for a pc with no video card (or even somewhere to put one).

Of course, if next-gen consoles also cost $1000...

I know it won't, but HL3 would be the biggest killer game in the history of ever.

Like 90% of PC gamers would buy the console JUST for that.

That said, they have long since pissed me off with how long they are taking for the episodic content.

They won't. We already know the Xbox 720 will have an AMD APU.

Someone educate me on Linux. On the steam page, there are what, 30 games available on Linux? Most of them first-party Valve titles.

I do not know how much this would help you with your education request.
But the link below is what Gabe thinks of Win8 and how he looks to use linux to side step the platform.

Gabe on Linux

The Valve boss continued, saying that in the fallout from Windows 8, "we'll lose some of the top-tier PC/OEMs, who will exit the market. I think margins will be destroyed for a bunch of people." Newell criticised Windows 8 while talking about the future of the gaming industry, and you can read everything he said at
quote:

Valve is working to bring Left 4 Dead 2 and other Steam titles to Linux in a move that Newell describes as "a hedging strategy." If his predictions about Windows 8 come true, he says "it will be good to have alternatives to hedge against that eventuality."

FTR : I am a big valve fan, but do not know if this is something I will embrace totally. Just looking to get the details and information out there. I think what I am most excited about is open competition in the console/modular pc/android whatever market out there. Everyone and their mommas want to put out hardware this cycle and it is exciting for a nerd like me

Also, the price points that I listed in the OP appear to be the protoype for a kickstarter that Xi3 did alone.

It is now being speculated that with mass production/buy in from valve plus subsidies (like sony and xbox do with their new hardare) that the price point would be lower than 1k. Again, obvious speculation.

Looking forward to the presentation at CES !

I probably won't ever load Windows 8 onto my computer. I'll probably keep 7 until the next things comes along. But it seems like for every other version of Windows there are doomsayers re gaming (and other crap too, but that's besides the point).
