Inspired by Scruff's thread on sammiches..Cubans

I've never had a McRib, but I've had a lot of Cubans and today Alton Brown did a sammich show where he pressed Cubans on long, thin hoagie buns. Every Cuban I've ever had was on square or round bread. Not long and thin. Thoughts?

The Cuban restaurant I go to uses bread shaped like French bread

Same. Cali n Titos in Athens has a sandwich they call Cuban but it's not a traditional.

I thought cuban sanwiches were named for the "cuban" bread. Which is a long thin hoagie like bread.

Just had a Cuban yesterday at a Cuban eatery in South Beach Miami. It was long and thin.

I think the classic Ybor City Cubanos are on long, thin Cuban bread. Most of the Cubans that I've had are made that way and flattened on the flat top with some kind of weight or spatula pressure with butter:
