ive been wanting to ask the board for a while on if they ever sub out healthy ingrediants on some of their favorite dishs and if so what do they do?

my dad is diabetic and we grew up eating sugar free stuff and low fat. my wife and i love to cook and sub out a few ingredients and im amazed on how good they are

we recently made a slow cook chili with 96/4 meat and cornbread with promise spread, low fat buttermilk and it turned out fantastic.

we have also done a spaghetti squash lasagna with lean beef, low fat cheese and it also was great. once you get use to it, it almost feels weird having the real stuff.

this past thanksgiving we brought a sugar free chocolate pie to my in laws and didnt tell them it was all splenda, skim milk, and promise spread and they all said they couldnt tell the difference, some even said during the meal that it was better than in years past. crazy stuff

I frequently sub Greek yogurt for sour cream & cream of "insert here". Sometimes you have to experiment a bit but it usually works out well. I sometimes use mashed avocado in place of mayo. We also love cauliflower rice. I'm not going to claim we stick to this exclusively, I grew up south of the "intracoastal". A life without rice is no life worth living, but moderation is our motto and we make it count.

i almost exclusively use turkey meat for my spaghetti and meat sauce.

pretty much only drink skim milk so i use it a lot.

applesauce is usually a good substitute.

We've done mashed cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes. It's really pretty good.

Almost always use ground turkey 97/3 now. Can't even tell the difference.

How did you do spaghetti squash lasagna? I've used spaghetti squash as spaghetti before b/c it comes out stringy.

I've also started buying sugar free desserts b/c with splenda its hard to tell the difference anymore.

Quinoa is an excellent swap for rice and pasta.
