They paid a premium for less years.

I think he'll Play a lot more 1B than catch. They'll use him a lot more than TX did.

I think it's a good signing. He hits HR at a high rate & that's what they need. Adam Dunn proved to be pretty valuable doing just that last year.

shite Johnny Gomes is a hot commodity this offseason.

He's produced as a platoon player/quasi starter so I don't see why that's a red flag. TX has a pretty strong offense, they could afford to platoon him.

And honestly he's not that fat. He wears a baggy uniform.

He's not David Ortiz, but Napoli looks like he's just finished a cheesesteak in the on deck circle most of the time.

Dunn's not the worst comp in the world for Napoli, as both are Three True Outcome players, though Dunn is a bit more extreme. But so is Mark Reynolds, who is also a free agent. Would you give Reynolds a three year $39 million deal? I think you can get him for less.

Napoli 227/343/469 (352 AB) $13 million
Dunn 204/333/468 (539 AB) $15 million
Reynolds 221/335/429 (457 AB) $8 million arbitration declined

I have an admitted soft spot for Three True Outcome players. Rob Deer is our patron saint. I am in the Cult of the Big Fat Guy. But $13 million a year for three years seems a bit steep. Let's see what Reynolds goes for.

I don't know, I was following Napoli on twitter. You'd be surprised how much leaner he looks in normal clothes in some of the pictures he posts.

I like Reynolds, didn't realize he was a FA.

Yeah, the O's turned down arbitration. But they will try and sign him as a free agent for a lower number than $8 million. Still the front runners to re-sign him. 2 years at $13 million would be great, but let's see how the market shakes out.

Bridging to the younger players and the FA market will be down the next couple of years. The red sox have money to burn, it's the long term contracts that messed them up.

And now I hear the Rangers are working on a 4 year $100M offer for Hamilton because of this. I hope that doesn't pan out.
