What's going on at the IRS?
LaDOR issued my refund 9 days ago.
I know, I know...refunds are evil.
Now showing May 15th...WTF

Well, I guess I should clarify. They accepted my return but provided no date of expected refund. Just "in process".

they were waiting on my money to come in so they could pay you ... you should have it soon

It took three weeks for the money to hit my account, fwiw. You'll be fine.

I just efiled 2 minutes ago.
I managed to whittle my owed funds to the feds down to $1216 and I'll get $1030 back from the state; basically a wash.

Bump...was originally showing April 17th, then April 24th, then "in process", then May 1st, now moved back to May 15th because of "processing delays".
Over 45 days after e-filing.

Did you have anything out of the usual on your return? Injured spouse, foreign income, etc? Sometimes it can take the IRS longer to process these returns...

Wife is in school, so we have the Lifetime Learning credit. Other than that its a straightforward filing.

Hmm - that is odd - doesn't seem like there should be anything to hold it up

They process returns in batches, so if you wait till the deadline your refund will take longer to go out due to the number of returns that they receive close to the deadline. Also, if you did not direct deposit your refund that also holds it up. If you filed on April 17th, then one month is not that long to wait.

I know the batch "process". Filed in late March. Should have recevied it by 4/17, it was then delayed to 4/24, then back to "in process", then to 5/1, then back to "in process", and now to 5/15.
We are able to itemize due to mortgage interest and charitable contributions to our Catholic Parish. Outside of that and my wife's lifetime learning credit for Grad School, we a basic return.
It shouldn't have taken this long.

It sounds like something in your return made it subject to human review prior to issuing the refund claimed. Most e-filed returns are never looked at by a human, and the delay is consistent with the time it takes for the IRS to process a paper return.

I got mine in about five days.

Just because it is delayed does not mean that there is a problem. Like the guy said, that it was flagged to be looked over by an actual person.
I have had this happen to a couple of clients, and it usually has nothing to do with the complexity of the return.
If you still have not gotten your refund by June, I would contact a Tax Advasery agent and have them intervine. Good news is they will pay you interest on top of your refund if they delay it.

I'll just let my CPA, who also happens to be my dad, handle it...

Golfer,
Whatever you do, don't put any faith in the Where's My Refund link at irs.gov. That system is not always accurate this year.
IRS installed nationwide a new electronic filing system...the MEF system. Delays have been common as there are glitches they have been working on all year.
If you asked for it to be direct deposited, check with your bank. I have seen the same comments on the "Where's My Refund" site as you have when the taxpayer had already received the direct deposit.
