and do they sell pistol targets or is it bring your own?

According to info on the LDWF website, everyone in your group needs at least some license, can be a "cane pole license".

And each user must also fill out one of the permit tags at the entrance. Put the top part in the drop box, each user keeps the middle part of the form, and bottom part of each users form goes your dashboard.

You can print the permits before you go. Here's a link:

LDWF WMA permit form

I've never been checked for the license or the paperwork, but these are the rules as I understand them.

they do decide to check from time to time and if you dont have a permit it's a hefty fine.

Right, I think I remember reading that the fine was over $200, but I couldn't find a link or website to confirm it. Just be sure to fill out the permit forms and handle them properly.

DWF agent that stopped us a few weeks ago at the Sherburne pistol range told us it was a $350 fine, but he was nice enough to let us off with a warning.

That was very nice of him. That's a serious fine. I wouldn't want to count on that kind of break too often. But I do believe that they are much more concerned with those using the management area for hunting than they are for those just using the ranges. Still no reason not to do the paperwork and be legal, though.

No argument here. We all had hunting/fishing licenses, and in all the years we've been going to the range at Sherburne we thought that was all you needed. Live and learn, at least this time the lesson was free. I'd make sure I take the 30 seconds to fill out the self clearing permit.
