Here's my point... don't rewrite history just because LSU has had some recent success. I agree that LSU can be winning more than they currently are, but to all of the sudden pretend that LSU is a program that doesn't tolerate 3-4 loss seasons is ridiculous.
shite...I remember 3 win seasons!!! OUCH! Now that was painful...and VERY unacceptable!

Florida never won the SEC until Spurrier got there in '90 either. i just don't understand people like you!

I think that losing at least 3 games EVERY year is not good enough. Because if that's the case, there's gonna be seasons where you fall back a bit and lose 5.
But if you have 3-loss seasons that occur but aren't the norm, that's okay. Because if you average 2 losses per season, eventually you'll out it together and lose 1 or none and compete for a trophy.

Three losses should be worse case scenario for this football program.
With what this program is now supposed to be - I agree with this. I said this in another thread:
If the LSU coach goes 5-3 in the SEC with consistency, that is not acceptable any more.
Every now and then ... sure. Even a 2008 season every now and then is to be expected.
This team should probably average around 2 SEC losses a season.

It's not so much the fact that we're losing 3-5 games a year now, it's HOW we're losing them. We should have won every single game that we lost this year. We lost them because of poor preparation and stupid mistakes. THAT'S why everyone's pissed.

Three or four losses are okay if you are willing to accept mediocre coaching. We should be a national contender EVERY YEAR.

7-8 in the SEC.
The manner in which we have lost is the issue, not the numbers of L's. I, from my chair, have diagnosed Les' offense this year....seriously.
The most basic of college coaches can sure as hell do it as well......there is a reason mediocre teams hang on.
My main issue is the lack of QB development. With proper coaching JJ should be way ahead of where he is now.

I've been following LSU since the early 1970s, and I too was accustomed to 3-4 loss seasons being considered successful. But as much as I hate to admit it, Saban changed my mindset. His comments about getting rid of our "catastrophe syndrome" and awakening the "sleeping giant", then going out and actually doing it raised the bar of success.
Up until very recently, I actually had the mindset that we could and should win every game. I'd come to believe that LSU was truely an elite program able to compete on an even keel with any program in the nation. That's obviously not the case now. Maybe we can get back there, but we've definitely slipped back a notch or two. And in the SEC, that's all it takes to become a second tier team.

Come on... Florida and Bama were legitimate losses. We really shouldn't even have had a chance to win the Ole Miss game. They outplayed us too. We were overmatched in all three games and nearly won all of them.

I agree that LSU can be winning more than they currently are, but to all of the sudden pretend that LSU is a program that doesn't tolerate 3-4 loss seasons is ridiculous. They've tolerated it with every coach that they've ever had (including Dietzel, Chollie Mac, and St. Nick).
What a loser attitude, you need to go support Miss State. Real Tiger fans will NEVER accept 2nd to Bama. All you fans who accept 2 or 3 or 4 losses a year can go to hell.

Partially right. Need to add a sophmore quarterback did not help. JJ will be great, he just has had a lot thrown on him at an early age.

Saban had ONE season with fewer than 3 losses. 20%...

In the 35 seasons before Miles became head coach (starting in 1970), five ended with fewer than 3 losses (1972, 1985, 1987, 1996, 2003).
And now there have been three in Miles' tenure.
I'll take this a little further, counting the number of two-loss or better seasons and overall number of seasons.
1972: McClendon (1/18)
1985: Arnsparger (1/3)
1987: Archer (1/4)
1996: DiNardo (1/5)
2003: Saban (1/5)
2005: Miles
2006: Miles
2007: Miles (3/5)
On a related note, Steve Spurrier had two or fewer losses in 7 of 12 seasons at Florida.
Coming into this season, Mack Brown had 5 of 11.
In Bobby Bowden's first 11 seasons at FSU, he had 3 seasons of two or fewer losses. Then he went on a 14-year run of two or fewer losses.
Larry Coker was 3/6 in this "two or fewer" category.
...
IMO, Miles is approaching a crossroads and next year will be the turning point. In a year when key positions leave Florida and Ole Miss, and LSU brings some experience to the table, does LSU get back to the 2005-2007 type results, or are we a 2nd tier SEC team again? I think next year determines if Miles becomes LSU's Mack Brown or LSU's Larry Coker.
