Trying to decide if it would be best for my wife and son to head toward Houston today or tomorrow am early. With the thinking being most would opt for today, meaning lighter traffic tomorrow.

Supposedly it will be pretty windy late tonight/early morning.

I was thinking about leaving at 7-8 pm today and hoping that would be less trafficy.

Tomorrow will be too late imo.. This storm is about to blow up and people will freak out. I would leave today and go North and/or West asap.. I hope I am wrong, but this one is going to be really bad imo.

As long as you can get into a safe structure anywhere about 40+ miles from the shore, you should be fine. I live in S Houston and always book a hotel on the North side of town when a storm is threatening. 95% of the time I get to cancel the reservation. Food for thought in the future.

Definitely today. The heavy winds start to hit early tomorrow and you don't want to get caught out in that mess.
