BSG and Fringe would be right there with X Files and Firefly for me as my first 4.

My only issue with X Files is it tails off quite a bit after Duchovny's contract issues. It sustains for a while, but loses a lot. I did a rewatch a while back and didn't actually finish - I still will probably though at some point.

Firefly

Firefly would be top 3 easily in my book if it had made it past the 1st season...

I'd say:

BSG 2004
ST DS9
X Files
Babylon 5
ST TNG
Fringe
Farscape
Firefly
Twilight Zone
The Expanse

Thats the 10.

ETA: Stargate SG-1 migt make my list. I'm in Season 7. Good watch, not groundbreaking yet. On par with Farscape for me right now. Farscape did go nuts in the last season, so I'm waiting to see if SG-1 does that.

Wow. You missed big. And I'm not going to say it.

ETA: Didn't read the rest of the thread, but yes....BSG is like Top 3 easily.

Yeah, I realized it - but I have also never seen it. That's on me, I know.

You should watch it man.

A lot of people will attest to the quality of the show, albeit with some reservations about the ending. It's really a drama set in space with everything a viewer would ask. It encompasses so much. It's my personal #1, same reason I joked with Freauxzen earlier because I know it's his #1 too. We're not alone though.

Red Dwarf
Extremely British show that does a great job using classic sci-fi tropes and making them very funny.

Throws in some sharp 80s-90s era social commentary as well (back when that stuff actually had some depth to it).

Netflix series "Dark"

That show still blows my mind. You'll have to read subtitles but damn was it great.

Like a few posters mentioned, watch Dark and it will go to the top of your list. Perfectly executed sci-fi series.

HBOMax has Raised by Wolves. It got pretty weird, but if you’re into sci-fi, it’s worth a shot. Ridley Scott is involved and it’s pretty obvious in the design of the characters.

Stargate SG-1
The first 8 seasons or so are very good. Then it became mediocre, the last few seasons (plus movies) went downhill.

Speaking of Farscape .... I think you'll like the last couple of seasons or so of SG-1.

Spoilers!

Devs. 8 hours of great TV. Edit: Raised by Wolves. Weird AF but if you stick until the end it all makes sense.

I always liked Sliders, but I wouldn’t rank it at the very top.

Liked the concept, and it had a few good seasons, as I recall. Been a while since I watched.

The first season and a half of Falling Skies was intriguing. But the writers went brain dead and PC after that.

I just watched falling skies. I think that was it. On HBO. I liked it. Didn’t think there was any pc stuff and I can’t stand that crap. It was created before the woke crap went mainstream

Firefly
BSG
The Expanse
Black Mirror
Sliders
Love Death + Robots
Dune (2000)
Warehouse 13
Pushing Daisies
Dead Like Me

Yeah, I know the last 3 aren't true science fiction, but they have the elements of great science fiction

I enjoyed the whole run not just 1-4
