.30 caliber minimum.
Damn, guess I won’t use my 28 Nosler on elk this year

you are planning on hunting elk and moose with the 6.5 you need to pick another caliber.
6.5 is fine for moose and elk. Not my first choice but it works fine. People in Norway have been killing moose with 6.5x55 since forever. Like I said, not my first choice but I wouldn't feel undergunned if that is all I had.

Interesting. I’ll definitely do more research since reading what you all have said. At the price point it’s nothing I’d like to buy in a hurry.

I’d get a .270 win or 7mm08 instead for white tails and use the elk/moose hunt as an excuse to get another rifle(7mm Mag or 300 win Mag).

this is the best grouping piece for me. had to add a limbsaver to avoid a brake, which makes me wish it was a 7.

Surely you’re trolling us. With a scope, that’s a 12# rifle jack. And one that shoots a pill that will make a bull elk laugh.

Don't buy a 6.5 just to do that. Whatever rifle you already have will be just as good and a 300 win mag would be better

Just out of curiosity, would you say an elk is bigger or smaller than a moose. That’s why I said .30 minimum.
Besides that if your in places that have moose and elk, you also have grizzlies.
Bigger is always better when it comes to grizzlies.
Guy from Memphis a few years ago went on his dream hunt. Moose in Alaska (I think it was Alaska). He got his moose and as he and the guide were breaking it down a grizzly attacked and killed him.

I get what you’re saying but a European moose is nowhere close to the same animal as a moose here.

I’d have zero issues hunting pretty much everything in North America with a 6.5 except grizzly

Simply asking for an opinion man. Relax.

People kill elk and moose with a 6.5 every year, but if I’m buying a rifle specifically for an elk/moose trip, it’s not going to be a 6.5.

FIFY
Are you really going to buy a heavy small caliber rifle to hunt expensive tough game that you might only get one shot in your life at?
Shoot the biggest caliber lightest rifle that you can hang on to. 6.5 creedmoor will get the job done but unless you're super recoil sensitive, why risk it? Get a .300 win mag or bigger.
There isn't a grown man on this planet over 150lbs that can't handle an 8 lb .300 win mag with a little practice, or a 7 lb 7mm rem mag. A tikka t3 tact is a horrible rifle to bring out west, in any caliber. Get a regular t3 lite in .30-06 if you are scared of recoil. I've shot several lightweight magnum rifles and it isn't bad at all. People will cower behind a 300 win mag but go duck hunting with a 7lb 12ga shooting 3.5" howitzer shells. The rifle kicks much less and you only need to shoot it once.

The tac is just silly. Get the traditional build.
^This. 10# is too much for a hunting rifle unless it's a pure bench gun. Get a lightweight gun w/ a traditional stock. What need does the chassis stock meet? As far as caliber, 6.5 CM is ok for deer (as long as proper deer hunting bullets are used), but it would not be my choice for an elk or moose hunt. Yeah, elk and moose have been killed by smaller guns, but why choose a smaller gun on a expensive hunt that requires a lot of travel and time off? Use the best tool for the job, preferably at least a 30 cal magnum w/ a controlled expansion bullet, or, even better, a 338 Win Mag.

The .375 of North America
I bought one to elk hunt with and now I just shoot everything with it. The recoil is no doubt stout, but from field shooting positions it isn't noticeable.
