Government should have no control over private property.

Let’s call this douchebag and tell him he can’t do that.

I just called his office. They answered pretty quickly, said that they will be releasing a statement regarding this order later today, and that they would forward the statement to my email.

I guess I wasn’t the first person who has called with concerns.

It’s like he’s trying to get run against and beat.

I wonder if such broad statements are being made in bullshite executive orders in other parishes/counties?

Total control- what exactly does that look like when this order is applied? Access? Activities? Financial control?

I called, and had the same response, and I'm usually an internet griper. They are hoping to get a statement out today.

Spoke to a buddy who has experience in parish government, and he said they proclaim broad powers, knowing it will be challenged and reduced down the road.

Talk about the very definition of tyranny...an illegal decree in which the private citizen risks harassment and arrest initially, before the courts have to check powers.

Unbelievable.

I don't understand why he would even attempt this. They had to know this shite wont fly with St Tammany residents. If this order gets enough coverage he can kiss his re-election chances goodbye.

NO ONE is talking about this order in the news.

This is the kind of shite that should be in local AND national news.

Are they? Where is any of that crap actually written down?

I remember people like Ray Nagin and that Broussard clown talking about "martial law" during Katrina, and having to be informed that there was absolutely no such concept anywhere in the law.

Emergency for what?

Did Katrina happen again? Are we at war? Is Football canceled?

Interesting. If martial law means suspension of the constitution, then I’d agree it’s not a thing.

But governors’ rule making per emergency power have been upheld everywhere at least to some extent. Not sure the source of the power… and perhaps parish execs don’t have it: I would need to research

There is probably a big, tremendous gray area around all of this that lawyers can use to make money. There really shouldn't be, though. This Cooper guy (or Aaron Broussard, etc., for that matter) shouldn't have much power at all, and shouldn't have any role in dealing with emergencies. We have cops and the National Guard for that.

I agree this is a dumbass use of emergency powers for anyone a and should be illegal. Unfortunately only courts can ultimately decide if it’s too much. We need good leaders
