Tiger_n_Texas, I respectfully have to disagree. I read through on all these training log threads and I see what you all are doing, and there is no way in hell you can do all those deads and squats and overhead presses AND have a weak core. Just my .02, and I'm heavily biased for SQUATS! and deadlifts, but just do more of that if you want to work on your core (which is probably fine).

In my experience, nothing challenges my core like holding a heavy press overhead for a 3 to 5 count at the end of a set, but you could definitely add that other stuff you mentioned in as you please.

Thanks for the response. Weak core might have been a bad description. I just noticed during Deadcember that anything involving abs were torture.

When doing rollouts, it felt like I had ripped something in my lower abdomen. I started doing captain chair leg raises instead. I want to focus on strengthening my abs.

I like the suggestion of pausing at the top of OHP and focusing on squats and deads. Think I'll start the original Oak Tree tomorrow and add in some extra ab work.

Well, ab roll outs are just hard. I used to be decent at planks, which are kinda similar, and roll outs, but when I do them now they feel like what y'all were describing in the Deadcember thread about the roll-outs being brutally painful and feeling like things are tearing apart. I blame my issues on the huge gut I constructed several years ago that I feel the need to maintain forever apparently. What I'm saying is, I wouldn't use ab roll-outs being hard as a good indicator of anything.....other than not being well trained with ab roll-outs.

Could do a few sets front squats to add in more core.

Just starter Strong and Fast AF Yesterday. This is probably the 6-7 program of PPSA I’ve run. One question, the guide says that the sprint warm up should take 20-25 minutes but I ran through Day One’s warm and sprints in like 10 minutes. Is the guide just off or am I missing something?

Starting 70s Big today.

I think I want to add some core work at the end of the workouts. I liked that from Deadcember and could feel my core getting stronger.

if you do the warmup- you have

1) 4x 45s plus time for the run so prolly close to 4min total
2) 2x45 plus time for the backwards run so prolly 2 min total
3) 2x45s plus time for the bounds, so 2 min

plus you need atleast 1 min between the exercises. sp

4+2+2+3=11 minutes total for warm up

plus you have the sprints listed under speed. starts as 4 sprint with 2 min rest in between. so that is 8 minutes minimal if you went straight from warm up to the sprints.

so total time minimum of 19min.

you missed something if you did both in 10 min. remember speed training is not cardio. its a full rest and recovery before the next rep. dont rush it if speed is truely the goal.

Started my 2nd run of the original Oak Tree yesterday. Forgot how much I liked this one. I wanted something that hit all 3 main lifts, 5 days a week, and typically clocks in under 75-80 min. Also needed it to be light on rows and curls. My elbows are still tender from Christmas Big Bench.

Walking to the gym yesterday at 7am and today at 3am today sucked, but had to get back before my wife left for work. Ready for the kids to be back at school tomorrow.

Day 2 of 70s done.

Holy shite that was probably the hardest workout I have ever done. 75 reps of squats and the last set of 3x3 at 315 smoked me. My form on dumbbell RDLs was atrocious and my legs felt like jelly. I ended up burning over 800 calories and it took me right at 70 minutes.

I finished day 1 of db strength last night, ill hit day 2 tonight. my wife missed last night, we shall see if she shows up for tonight. she has been exhausted with year-end and New Year stuff.

I will say, I always forget how hard DB strength is. I did not do the cardio as I will add that month 2. I also didn't do the skull crushers, they hurt my elbows usually and I already having some tendonitis so i put the BFR bands on and did cable overhead extensions, 100 reps. talk about a fricking pump!!!

W2D2 Pool Season

DL and Back Day. I have had this program for 6-9 months and never did it. Was somewhat intimidated by it after reading the in game thread from the board. After 6 workouts i think it is the best overall program I have done. I really like the drop sets with the last one being a much lower weight higher rep for the major lifts. That was something we did way back in high school just for muscle stamina. It is like a full body Arm Farm workout. I am very impressed with this so far.

Finish out week 2 this week then will be out for a week where i will just be able to do cardio and then will come back and finish it up.

Grade A+ program so far.

Those squat sessions are no joke. One of them had my HR at 170 on the final set. I’m in good cardio shape too.
