If it was a plane already headed to NOLA there would be a lot more than 10 taken to the hospital.

I wonder how long they felt like they were dropping. 150feet is a decent fall, but its kind of a smidge in the grand scheme of things considering the plane is 40,000 feet in the air. But even 2 seconds of free fall feeling would freak me out.

always amazes me that people don't, not to mention the passengers who have to stand in the aisle to b.s. with other passengers.

How am I supposed to hang out in the business class bar if I can't leave my seat?

I always think about the load on those wings. Falling 150 feet and then stopping has to put a very high stress level on them.

Thats a good point. I dont think ive ever heard a story of the wings falling off, but thatd be some shite. Im flying in 3 weeks. I hope the wings stay on.

That is literally the stuff of nightmares for me. I'm not sure I could ever fly again if I went through that. Gives me chills just thinking about it at me desk.

ETA: scariest turbulence for me was in grad school flying back from Ecuador in the middle of the night. I was asleep and we must have fallen maybe like 20 feet or so. It was instantaneous, but woke me straight up and I was terrified. I can't imagine what falling 150 feet is like...even if it's only 4 or 5 seconds of freefalling, it must have felt like a fricking hour.

They put those things through so many tests that the fuselage would break apart before the wings fell off. Wing Test

The plane flew through a filament of the empty dimension.

It's frightening, but generally very safe. The only risk in this situation were people not strapped in being tossed around the cabin. Dropping a few hundred feet sounds dangerous until you remember that you had another 10,000 feet to go before it became a real issue

I agree with you, but no guarantee my bowels will share the same sentiment.

From severe turbulence to being treated at a NOLA hospital and/or a NOLA layover......talk about jumping from the frying pan to the fire.

I had this happen on a flight I was on. The pilot came on and told everyone to throw their drinks on the floor and the flight attendants hit the floor and held on to the seat brackets.

Wonder what this turbulence would have done to a smaller aircraft

I think it's a testament to our engineering that this turbulence was severe enough to injure 10 people but the plane was fine.

How far do you have to free fall before you blackout? That sh*t scares the hell out of me and is why I dont enjoy flying...you never know what's coming in the next second

On my flight from Phoenix to Eugene a couple of days ago, the O2 masks deployed after a loss of cabin pressure. I was the first seat on the right and a single seat as well so no one was in my field of vision. Looking at my ipad with earbuds in, it was probably a full minute before I noticed something dangling in front of my face.
