I am starting a small hardscaping/landscaping company and I am buying machines. There is a really good Bobcat dealer like 3 miles from my house so that has made me focus on Bobcat offerings. For instance, I really wanted to go with DitchWitch stand on skid steers but the closest dealer in 2 hours away so I just decided that Bobcat (being only 2 miles away) just made sense... So, I have already bought aMT100 from the local dealer.

Anyway, any of you guys spend time on tracked skid steers? I am looking for a mid-frame right now and a Bobcat T62, T64, T66 all fit the bill AND I have dealer support close by. I have looked at Kubota, Cat, Takeuchi, ASV (and they all seem pretty awesome but there is a wide array of reports on reliability). It feels like having a guy down the street trumps any minor benefits. Are there any benefits I am missing out on? Is there a machine that trumps the rest in the mid-sized frame?

Cheers

I’m on a bobcat 650 everyday. About to pick up a new T62. Dealer service is definitely important. Current machine has ~1000 hours with no issues, normal maintenance. Affordability and availability of parts makes Bobcat a winner over the others in my mind.

That's my thinking too. Kubota's machines seem great but having a dealer (with mobile mechanics) seems too good to pass up. Cheers.

Rubber track over metal track.

The safety bar fuse sucks when it’s on the fritz.

All I got.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. The bigger machines are hard to find though. I have been looking for a low hour mid-frame for a week (primarily Bobcat 62-66) but I also have looked at ASV (some bad reviews), CAT (SAE controls :-(), and Kubota, which does not have a great dealer here.

Anyway, that's what I want. Reliable.

The operators I worked with didn’t maintain equipment. They refueled and went back.

Those skids run hard, break heard, and operators just jump in another one.

Buy all you want, just find a good mechanic.

Can’t go wrong with bobcat cat kubota John deer even tekuchi

Just make sure it has the solid suspension do your research when you narrow down the size/hp some models have quirky issues

When you select it make sure you’ve got the right hydraulic setup for what you want to use it for hi Flo with switches it costs a fortune to add later

Make sure it’s big enough to do what you want it to even if you aren’t buying the attachments right away

We only use Cat tracked skid steers. Of course, we have many other pieces of equipment much larger than a skid steer, but I will say, they serve a great purpose and are invaluable machines.

I have never seen a piece of equipment that is neglected as much as this class of equipment and still perform as well as they do they are amazing

I would lean to bobcat and kubota. They simply last forever and even with modern electronics are still basic, repairable machines. Parts are cheap and ubiquitous. No JD proprietary BS.

Stay away from higher HP machines that require Def and you will be fine with Bobcat. JD is great too. Buy one with Def and run it out of Def and you’ll have a headache on your hands.

Stay away from Bobcat.
Do your homework.
I got away from Bobcat and went with Takeuchi and couldn’t be happier.
