Remember how bad this board wanted Grant Gunnell out of Houston?

We all wanted him but concluded he was eventually A&M bound. Randomly decommits from A&M and signs with Arizona.
He is now transferring to Memphis after one season in Tucson.

Well everyone wanted him early because he was a 5 star he slowly dropped off and nobody talked about him by his senior season

He followed Kevin Sumlin. It wasn’t random. Also, a lot of analysts thought he was over rated in his senior season of HS.

I think he had a few good games at Arizona including his freshman year. I’m guessing he’s transferring because Sumlin is gone.
Also remember the board being somewhat split on Gunnell after some underwhelming camp showings.

Looked elite as a sophomore, but never got better, and might have even gotten worse

It just shows that recruiting isn't an exact science and there are busts. Every team has their share. On signing day everyone is a potential All American but it never works out that way. If 15/16 players in a class of 25 become starters or solid contributors you had a good class.

Billy on 247 said that he threw a fit during some 7v7 games a few times and it was really ugly. Some coaches backed off based off of some character concern. I don’t think you can really say that he was overrated, talent wise, size since he is a career 65% passer with 15 td and only 3 int. We would be crowning him as the next burrow if he had done that here.
Coach O told him that he would ride a tiger to his signing day ceremony if he picked LSU, so we definitely wanted him at some point.

Zaddock Dinkleman 2.0?

Dinkleman became a nobody in college and is at Division II Texas A&M-Kingsville, Gunnell has been pretty good so far, and at a power 5 team.
Dinkleman just had his first college start last week at TAMU-Kingsville (in his 3rd year in college) and went 28/47 for 316 yards, 2 TD and 3 picks in a loss.

His stats were skewed and he did too much dinking and dunking at Arizona. Many Arizona fans felt he didnt have the arm strength.

Brady White transferred from Arizona State to Memphis and had a terrific career. Don’t write him off because of that, he’s not finished.

Update - in his 2nd start at A&M-Kingsville Dinkleman went:
11 for 24, 74 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT
