I am revisiting my watch collecting after nearly 7 years off from adding pieces and selling pieces. Things have been good for us, so I would like to add a couple of new pieces to my currently lonely timepieces. I am not nearly as the level of knowledge or collections TD's own Obtuse and Broke have, so I hope they jump in this thread. I currently own:
Rolex Air-King Ref. 14000
Omega Speed master
Maurice LaCroix's: The Phase De Lune

I am looking at adding another piece to my collection. I am giving a heavy look at a:

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Réserve de Marche

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M 232.32.44.22.03.001

I would love the board's recommendations on their favorite watches at the moment. I am trying to stay under 8k.

Almost forgot this is the OT, sooooo...

I have this to tell time, and I am convinced it tries to kill itself instead of being commandeered by a 3-year-old little girl on lots of Baby Shark, Let it Go, etc songs on repeat all day.

I was torn between the two, but I think I landed on the Sapphire Crystal Moonwatch. I just wish either carried the date.

How do you feel about them?

feel like you are trying to distract from the girly hands by modeling them in front of a stack of firewood

there's no way them hands chopped that up

Dude, just learn to think for yourself: it’s a watch, not the Holy Grail...

My wife gave this to me recently as a bday gift.

I will say it’s impressive how much heft was put in it......love it!

My Rolex sub pales in comparison. It’s really sad actually......I now get what watch snobs have been saying.

The one watch I think definitely holds its own is my Marathon JSAR. Workhorse all day long. The Omega is a stud but I just can’t bring myself to sweat on it yet:)

OP, I’m sure you know this, but prepare yourself for this illness. I thought I was gonna be a “One-watch guy” and then before I know it I have my current collection with plans to add more

I really like the Tudor Black Bay line, I own the 36 as my every day watch, but really like the aesthetic of most of that line (the "regular" Black Bays are 41mm and chunky so that may or may not work for you depending upon wrist size). I also really like the Pelagos (again more on the chunky side).

I would also look into Grand Seiko. They have some interesting movements (Spring Drive, High Beat, etc...) and have high quality finishing. This is one of my favorites from them (SBGJ201):

First, I like both watches but I would pick the Good Planet GMT for a couple of reasons.

You have the dressy to casual well covered as well as the black and black and white/silver dial covered. So the blue with the orange accents is quite different.

You don't really have a more obvious tool watch.

I am biased since the Planet Ocean Good Planet GMT is my favorite Planet Oceans and honestly one of my favorite watches that I own (mine is on bracelet). The 43.5mm size is the Goldilocks for me in the PO case size. It is always the first watch I pick for what I am carrying on vacation.

The watches are so different I don't see any point in comparing movements, sizes, etc. The only thing to note is the PO is going to wear much more like a hockey puck than any of your others, well depending on which Speedmaster you have.

I don't think you can go wrong here. BTW I don't keep up with the Omega discontinuations that well but is the Good Planet still available new?

Maybe a Grand Seiko SBGA211 "Snowflake"? The mirror hands and indices are similar to the JLC that you like. The JLC's dial is a little cluttered for me personally but that's subjective. But the GS has all the same features, just without putting them on subdials

Wow, this is actually a good watch thread with many angles that I can take. You have a Maurice LaCroix already. I stick with 1 or 2 dress watches. You have 1 already and could possibly throw the Air King in the mix already. The Speedy pro is iconic and I HIGHLY approve of your choice there. The Jaeger is smaller and thinner but a beautiful watch. But if I was in your same position, I think I would pick the PO because you don't really have what I would consider a Jean and Dress watch (Watch Idiot Savants call it a tool watch). And I think you need one of those in your rotation. You'll notice a difference in heft and weight and I would seriously go try one on before you purchase just to make sure you have a good grasp of what you'll be wearing on a daily basis.

If I’m gonna blow 10k and need a watch to tell time, I’m probably going to buy a damn 100 dollar Casio and put the rest in gold, silver, or ammo and call it a day.

Sorry to hijack- but this is a good thread with lots of good info. What are you guys' thoughts on Cartier watches? Quality, or are you just paying for a name?
