If I recall correctly that was a made for TV deal as it was the lead in to the Super Bowl that afternoon. Remember, in those days playing on national TV was still a huge deal (not every game was on TV). Brown, being the ultimate promoter, got the game even though it was right in middle of SEC play.

LSU won in shootout. UNLV would later destroy Duke for the national championship

Say what you want about Dale, but the PMAC was NEVER more exciting than in the 80's/early 90's.

Golden days of LSU basketball.

Dale found ways of putting LSU in the spotlight in those days when most games weren't broadcast on TV.

I was blessed to go to both as a kid. I remember the UNLV players walking around outside the PMAC after the UF game like they owned the place. The UNLV game was the loudest I have ever heard the PMAC near the end of the game. Although a few Brady games, like Arizona, tried to match the intensity and loudness, I don't think you'll ever get back to anything like those days when the students were on top of the court and the fans cared enough to camp out for days for an LSU basketball game. I think it was 2nd loudest moment I've experienced at LSU next to Hodson to Fuller.

Teams were absolutely loaded back then.

It always irks me the narrative that Dale didn't win a NC with CJ, Shaq, Stanley, etc. We lost to a top loaded GT team in Round of 32.

Then GT made the Final Four and lost to an amazing UNLV team that crushed Duke in the Finals.

Duke beating undefeated UNLV in the Final Four the next season is one of the greatest upsets.

Mike V was just a cub.

But, we had a Center who could block out the Sun. Can't recall his name.
