Is it possible to use a PC and store these directly onto the NAS? I assume so as long as the NAS is mapped and on my network.

Yes, you can use any mapped drive on your PC for your library location.

Some good info in here. I repurposed an old dell (circa 2012) that I use for my Plex server. Only have Plex Media Sever, Deluge, MCE Buddy, AnyDesk, and PowerPanel running on it. I use PlexPass to record OTA and IPtorrents to fill in the gaps. Like others said, try to stick with freeleech torrents to keep your ratio up. With the old PC I'm using, I only really have issues when Plex tries to convert the resolution instead of playing the native format (ie converting from 4K down to 1080). I've found most players have an option to play full resolution when at 'home'.

Edit to add: PC I'm using is an old Dell Precision T3600. Also added the YaRSS2 plugin on Deluge. That scrapes IPtorrents for new episodes of series I have configured. Once everything is setup, just run the occasional update.

I'll add my experience over the last year. I bought an old Lenovo I7 off of craigslist for less than $150 (don't remember the exact amount) and loaded xpenology on it. It's a way of running the Synology NAS OS on a desktop computer. I installed Docker on it and have it running my Unifi controller, Pi Hole, Plex server, along with Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, and Transmission. I started with a Home Assistant container, but haven't done anything with it yet.
