He averaged about 40 more yards per game this year than Ensminger did with two true freshman QBs playing the majority of the year. Most of our fans couldn't wait to see Ensminger leave and now they're foaming at the mouth over Yurcich.
I get it - I don't think it will be easy to evaluate Yurcich in his time as Texas. So either he's a good OC because of his earlier stops or he's not. One year here (under Turtle Tom Herman) shouldn't be the key evaluation.

The RPO has been around for like a decade now
I had on the Bluegrass Miracle over the summer when it came on TV and the announcers were talking about one of the teams running the RPO. And they weren't treating it like some new concept. I'm no football scholar, but it's probably been around for 20+ years.

Max is a pretty middling looking athlete for the RPO.
As noted by others, you don't need to be a great running QB to run the RPO. But consider that Max has had almost no collegiate body and speed development because of Covid. Give him a year, plus a spring practice season, and with the right OC, we might have a gem.

The basis is making the LB choose between stopping the RB or dropping into Coverage.

For an example, see our first offensive play against Oklahoma last year. Burrow reads the LB #23 who plays the run, so Joe throws a quick dart to the TE

Wanted him years ago and still like him for LSU. He's worked with dual threats (Fields, Ehlinger, Cornelius), and statues like Mason Rudolph. As a matter of fact with Rudolph he had 9000 pass yards and 65 TDs to 14 ints in just two years.

I feel like he is the best option.

I liked Moorhead but figured that was a longshot, Yurcich would be a HR imho

Who would run RPO in our offense? Max is a pretty middling looking athlete for the RPO. He can run it but he won't be great at it. Finley is a giant plodding log out there no way he could run it.
Someone doesn’t know what an RPO is.

Does he know Pete caroll or has he coached at usc?

It’s not that we don’t know the difference between an RPO and a read option, Kap @49ers- read option, Foles @Eagles- RPO. Schematically I also understand the difference. What I, and others are saying is this- if the LB has to decide between following the TE or collapsing toward the RB and he does move up to the RB then the QB throws to TE that’s a RPO. That LB had a 50/50 decision to make. However, if through the course of that game the QB has taken off a half dozen times for 5-7 yards each time then LB’s decision % is no longer 50/50 because now he has to account for 2 people running out the backfield bc he got burned before, therefore giving the QB an easier chance of getting the throw to the abandoned TE.
Explain to me what about that doesn’t make sense.
Having a QB that can take off an run is a plus in literally any offense.
But it doesn’t make sense to say you can’t run RPOs with immobile QBs.

Just fyi hes not talking about Read Option where the QB pulls it from the RB and keeps it. RPO has some of those principles but its mainly either handing to the RB or pulling it and throwing it.

Tom didn't really change the offense but Sam played horrible this year. Yurcich needs a QB that can hit passes longer than 15 yards with consistency.

Apparently Brady needs Burrow for his offense to work but that doesn't stop ppl in here from slobbing his knob

Yurcich would even be good in the pgc role.

Finley is big and strong...zero finesse...lousy field presence and perception...he might be able to get loose but he'd be better at running back.

FOOTBALL IGNORANCE RIGHT HERE FOLKS
you have Zero clue about how a RPO actually works do you?

A 6’6” 245 lb. RB? Can’t recall ever seeing one of those.

I agree - but it was hard to evaluate him under Herman as we never really knew how much Titter Tom's thumb was on the offense. Also, Herb Hand sucks as an OL coach (and recruiter) so that complicated matters. We just kinda assumed at one point if it was a good play call, it was Yurcich and if a bad one, Herm.
Thanks for giving me a laugh. Good luck to you guys...

Yurcich needs to be the guy. I'm going to say this to hopefully make it happen...
"Yurcich will never be the OC at LSU. 0% chance."
Please baby Jesus
