He's not a holy man, he's a business man. His parishioners are too stupid to see that.

Sounds like a bunch of socialist in this thread. Bitching about rich companies taking legal benefits instead of giving it away to the less successful

Religious types are necessarily gullible, otherwise they wouldn't be religious. So predators of the gullible like Osteen are simply a natural and expected consequence. Maybe if the world had a few more monsters like him they'd realize how retarded religion is in the first place.

He would be an idiot to pay more taxes than he has to.

Joel does not have any formal theology training whatsoever. He studied radio and TV communications in college but did not graduate with a degree. Not that you have to go to seminary school to tell others about the word of God but I do have some issues about the way Joel does this and his massive wealth. Sure I have listened to his show on Sirius but if you have listened to one show you basically have listed to them all. He is more of a motivation coach/speaker than a pastor/preacher. If you have low self esteem he will tell you how to improve it. If you don’t have a lot of money he will tell you to keep a positive attitude and it will work out, and etc etc. He always uses celebrities, pro athletes, certain people in the Bible (only those who fit his positive narrative) as examples of overcoming adversity and rising to greatness. But the biggest issue I have with Joel is he never addresses sin nor does he ever state the way to salvation. Motivation speaking is great for everyone but the way to salvation is completely different for Christians, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Judaism. Joel comes up empty here. Joel never address Satan, Hell, demons, or sin. We currently live in a world full of sin and suffering and this is a very important part of the Bible. Joel completely ignores it because it does not fit his narrative of being a feel good positive motivational speaker.

How can one miss the point of this so entirely. There's only two options on the rant. It's either full prosperity nonsense or its ascetic gospel.

Okay. Where is the line where an organization can or can not accept money from the government after the government forced you to shut down and prevented you from turning a profit?

How successful to they have to be to suffer?

The money is to be used mainly for payroll and medical/health benefits to employees. Large salaries had a cap for the amount they would qualify for, so it' snot like the funds went directly into his personal pocket. A small portion of funds could be used for utilities, rent and mortgage interest. If the funds are not allocated correctly it becomes a loan that he has to pay back. I can't blame to guy for applying for the funds to assist his business and employees when the virus had a negative effect on their revenue.

The size of his home and success is a totally different argument, and I do not understand how/why a pastor would live like he does and there is no way to justify his lifestyle.

Seems like there is 2 different arguments being made in this thread.

Seriously. Every rich fricker in America filed for payroll relief, even if they had billions in the bank to draw from.

I guess my point, however poorly made, was that mega church tends to have a negative connotation. Therefore, not ALL large churches are "mega churches." Some are just really big churches. If that makes sense.

They DID have to certify that they didn't have other sources of funds on which to draw. For whatever that's worth.

Edit: A certification had to be made as to economic need for the loan. NOT for not having other sources of funds available. My bad.

Didn’t Tom Brady’s company received almost a million dollars in relief? I assume everyone is just as upset for that as well. Bc Tom has money and all
