But like stated, it's an ongoing debate. The fact is in 2006 Arkansas was AT WORST a #4 team in the SEC not at best. Thats the point I'm making.

And I will agree with that.

Cosmo, you are right.

50-14 LOSS vs. USC
31-26 LOSS vs. LSU
28-28 LOSS vs. UF (SECC)
17-14 LOSS vs. Wisconsin

Arky lost thier last three games of the season, and I think before wisconsin that is why (along with $$$) that LSU was selected over them for the Sugar Bowl. LSU had won 7 straight and Arky had lost 2 straight going into bowl selections.

I'm telling you man, the Sugar Bowl has NEVER SELECTED LSU because of money. You are WAAAAY off on this point. On the contrary, the Sugar has selected LSU IN SPITE of the money. I am 100% correct about this. And yes, losing 2 in a row to end the season before the bowl game dropped them in the eyes of where they ranked in the conference, despite head to head records and such.

^^^ Maybe I'm wrong on that then. I was going off the local news (WDSU) But I know the 7 game win streak and Arky dropping 2 was a factor.

In all, #4 at WORST.

...if the Big 10 coaches start following the SEC in recruiting talent, ie, speed & quickness at all positions assuming that kind of talent is available in the frozen Nawth...they could become competitive on the national stage.

This would probably be a good subject for another thread, but since this comment was made here, I'll respond to it.
There has been a lot of discussion on why the Big Ten and some of the traditional powers like ND and Nebraska have been down in recent years. My theory, for what it's worth, is that it's no coincidence that the rise of the SEC has correlated with the decline of the Big Ten. There is talent in the Midwest and upper East Coast, but it isn't as abundant as it is in the South AND you have more schools competing for that talent. Ohio turns out some good players, but there also multiple BCS schools in that area recruiting the same kids.
In the past, the TV exposure and the national recognition of the Michigans, Ohio States and Notre Dames of the world allowed them to recruit talent out of the South to supplement the talent pool from the kids in the Midwest. Now, those kids in the South can get the same level of exposure and play for championships without having to leave the SEC.
That's bad news for the Big Ten, because I don't see that trend changing anytime soon.

The Big-10 may not have the speed depth of the SEC, but they do have the size depth.

The Talent follows the coaches. The SEC is LADEN with great coaches where the Big Ten has several.

That's the difference, IMO.

"Maybe we should put some people in our shoes," Ohio State quarterback Todd Boeckman said. "It's tough going through the Big Ten. It's brutal. Teams come at you each and every week and they're always tough, hard-nosed football games. It's a very, very tough thing to do."

Every team in the Big 10 that plays Ohio State is like the 9th team facing the JV every weekend. But then when Ohio State faces an SEC team they're going up against the varsity.

NOLA, if my memory serves me correct, in 06 LSU went to the Sugar Bowl (a BCS bowl) and beat Notre Dame. Do you think the Sugar Bowl would select an at-large #4 SEC team? If Arky was SEC #2 don't you think they would have went to the Sugar?

Biggest FAIL perhaps of all time for a tiger fan. (ok maybe not biggest ever, but I hope you were'nt serious about your comment.)

Jeez louise, if you no anything about the Sugar Bowl and the SEC, then you know the SECCG loser never goes to the Sugar Bowl.

Sorry, we have no frame of reference. We play in a cupcake league.

Why is that so funny? It isn't like the Big X is that weak of a conference. It isn't the SEC but not many other conferences out there are any better.

I don't dismiss the quality of the conference. I also give credit to Michigan and tOSU - those two aren't afraid to play anybody.

And how is that crying in the first place?

It is crying a little. No big deal, as all of the big league SEC teams do it, "We play Troy and SW Texas Blind Teacher's College and Reformatory because we have a tough SEC schedule." It's true, of course, but it's whining, too. Hey, if you don't want to play an SEC (or in your case a Big X schedule, Buckeye) withdraw and join the Sunbelt, WAC or MAC. I'm sure they can use the dues.

It certainly isn't the SEC, but it's still tough to win the Big Ten. Now Boeckman saying it's brutal? He went too far.

Cosmo - that's a little bit of a quick trigger you have there, huh? She's got two posts, let her settle in before you get all grabby.

I really feel like this is it. The coaches never have to make adjustments when they play the weaker teams in their conference. But when they face much tougher competition neither the players or the coaches know how to adjust their game.
