Nobody talking about the dropped passes

Look you can jump all over Brennan and say he’s not ready or he blew it. How about we bring up the fact of all the dropped passes. It’s his first big start, give the man a damn chance for god sakes! We had key players opt’d out and we will just have to deal with that. Key players being hurt or players playing hurt, again we just have to deal with it..... frick the rest of the SEC! They were hoping this would happen to us, listen boys we will get these boys back on track. Keep the faith! Go Tigahs!

I believe we were in good rhythm to score on first drive before Gilbert dropped that pass

How many drops did they have, 3-4?
Posted on 9/29/20 at 4:29 pm to 4TheLoveLSU
Brennan isn't why we lost. Even with all the drops he completed just under 60% of his passes. Hell 3 years ago if you told me that the new starting QB for LSU in his first game with minimal off-season and losing almost all of the starters would complete 59% of his passes for 345 yds and 3 TDs, 2 ints, I would've been ecstatic.
We lost because we didn't have the ability to stop their passing attack. Had we had a defensive performance on par with what we usually see from LSU, we win that game by double digits.

In all honesty if we can start running the ball and the receivers can get on the same page with Brennan, he was able to complete timing routes. We should be able to beat most of the mediocre teams if we don’t have to rely on MB making plays.

some of those 6-7 yard passes across the middle that were dropped had no touch on them. Brennan was throwing some of those as hard as he could and Jerry Rice circa 1991 would have had a struggle catching some of those.

One interception was a hail Mary at the gun and the other was his arm being hit because Deculus couldn’t stop a goddamn nose bleed he was so bad.
Without all the drops and if Deculus can actually block on the first interception Myles has a crazy great day.
Hell even if Deculus just blocks on that one play he has 400 yards and 4 TDs

I'm not gonna be able to make many practices this fall but I've emailed some binder inserts to O for what to do the season after winning the national title.

not sure total number of drops. But, the first 3 drives each had a dropped pass that would have resulted in a first down for each drive. Very frustrating.

Apparently the JUGS machines opted out.

One of the biggest things that a lot of you guys have mentioned is how long Breenen held on to the ball before throwing to the open receiver.
He nearly got Boutte head taken off throwing it so late.
He is not giving the receivers any time to catch the ball and make moves to avoid the hits and gain extra yards.
You have to get that ball to the receivers early.

If we are going to dig around and defend his drops let’s be honest about some of these stats.
One of those TDs was a hilarious heave to Gilbert. Got bailed out.
A huge chunk was when he painfully under threw a streak and got bailed out by Jenkins.

Yep...that first INT is a TD for LSU if complete. The other INT was hail mary at end of the game.
So it very well could have been 400+ yards/4 TDs/0 Int
Yes he missed on ALOT of wide open guys too during the day. But still a pretty solid performance.

It's never just one guy that wins or loses a football game. That said, the stats don't necessarily conclude without a doubt Brennan played "good enough to win". Outside of the one TD drive that culminated in essentially a Hail Mary TD to Gilbert, LSU did nothing in the first half. 7 of their 8 possessions were 5 plays or less. 5 of those 7 ended in punts. That directly led ton an already short handed defense being completely gassed in the second half.
To his credit, Brennan and LSU played much better to start the 2nd half. Their first two dives netted 10 points and if not for his arm being glanced on the throw, he would have had a TD to McMath. That would have put LSU up 31-27.
But as bad as the defense was, they DID give the offense a chance to create some space. The INT by Ricks led to a TD. MSU then fumbles on the ensuing possession at their 25 yard line. The game was there for the taking and LSU only gained 1 yard on the drive, having to settle for a FG.
Is his play the only reason LSU lost? ABSOLUTELY NOT. But it was concerning to see so many instances where he looked very hesitant and confused.

I only saw one pass to maybe TDP that seemed a little hard, the others all seemed pretty normal speed. If it was that bad, I'm sure Danielson on CBS would have noted it. He could use a little more touch, but I didn't see anything lightning fast.

Despite the outcome, I think Brennan will be fine. He did a real good job of protecting the ball for the most part, and made good decisions with the ball, but he was just a second behind on every play. That’s the type of issue that’s coachable with experience.

I believe this was discussed in one of the 45 Joe Brady threads. Apparently he took all the Jugs machines with him.
