Retired at 59. Was in awl bidness and didn't have any other option really. Older folks were getting retired out. But I had already built my retirement home on a lake in East Texas hundreds of miles from where I worked so I was going out the door. In hindsight, the business kind of sucks now and it is a target of one political party so I'm quite glad to be done.

I’m with you.

I’m retiring at 61.

So not getting a job you want because somebody else has it is "not being treatedike a human being"?

My Dad is 93 and still works full time. He told his wife (#3) I love you, but I love science more. If he ever has to retire he won't last long
I am considering retiring at 62 in a couple years and generally enjoy what I do, but don't live to work.

If you have the money then retire. But you need some other interests or you will go crazy. I am just fine in retirement. I look at my investment portfolio too often though.

I wouldn't mind doing something past retirement age, but a full time job until 80 is not something I want to do. Having a job you can say "frick it" and walk away from that occupies a couple/three days a week would be fine.

My gfather retired with pension from three different careers before passing on at 91.

20 years military (ww2)
20 years timber mgt
20 yrs sales (manufactured buildings)

He died with very little wealth, it was all pension checks. Totally different nowadays. No pension but your wealth grows over time. He'd have been worth millions with today's system.

I haven't even started my career, and I'm ready to retire now. I don't care what job you have. Waking up early 5 days a week to do stuff I don't want to do 9 or 10 hours a day doesn't seem like fun. I can always find something better to do than work.

Doesn't sound like you want to do much of anything.
