This is coming all around the country. Killing athletes dreams of free college for a virus that literally would never affect them. Think of how many low income/minorities achieve their dreams (track and field, for example)
Do you get a full scholarship in any sport other than football or basketball?

Hilarious. Start cutting the fat deeper.

Unless it has been changed recently, Full-ride athletic scholarships are only available in six college sports:
Football
Men’s Basketball
Women’s Basketball
Women’s Gymnastics
Tennis
Volleyball

“Men's tennis is an equivalency sport, which means all scholarships are not full scholarships. For example, in NCAA D1, men's tennis coaches can divide the value of the 4.5 scholarships available to them between as many players as they see fit.”
“Women's tennis is a head count sport only in NCAA D1, which means that all NCAA D1 scholarships are full scholarships.”

There are kids out there that need these non-revenue sports to gain access to an education they normally wouldn’t be able to get and that is being ruined by politicians.
Yea, gymnastics, tennis and swimming are full of kids from disadvantaged backgrounds.

International kids make up about 40% of tennis scholarships in the NCAA

The tribalism in sports is a threat to authoritarians because allegiance to a team or school can become a natural rival to unwavering allegiance to the state. Killing sports is one step on the road to complete demoralization of a populace.

Why should football profits subsidize other crappy in the red programs?

Pac12 plays about a million sports, they've needed to cut for a long time as big-time Title IX champions like UCLA were going bankrupt.

GTFO with this BS. Go to poli board.
Posted on 8/21/20 at 7:03 pm to OKtiger
And it will have to be men’s sports
Posted on 8/21/20 at 7:08 pm to ClampClampington
Why do they have to entirely get rid of the programs? Why not just eliminate all the unnecessary expenses? For a swim team you need access to a pool and a bus to go to competitions. Tennis you need access to a tennis court and a bus to go to competitions.

College football will die before Title IX goes away. Also, Title IX isn’t just about sports.
This is very true. It can also be about regret sex and false accusations.

It's a fantastic natatorium - one the best in the NCAA. I applied for a job there as the Aquatics Director a few years back but declined to pursue it...too big of a jump. It has hosted Big 10 championship, an NCAA national championship meet, Iowa Swimming LSC meets, and Iowa HS State. A solid $20 million facility...

Which leads me to believe they'll bring it back down the road.

This is a bad take. For some schools it means you would have only football. It means at LSU you would only have football, men’s basketball, and baseball.
I’ll admit I don’t follow every sport at LSU closely, but I wouldn’t want them to go away.

No quicker way to turn college football and basketball into pay for play than to cut out unprofitable programs and have AD's raking in dough. There would be no argument against paying players at that point.
